    Cats and my car...

    Aug 08, 2008 7:13 PM

Hi... need some help with a problem! Two (or possibly more) local cats have taken to 'parking themselves' on my black soft top.. Only a mountain of hairs so far but not looking forward to a bout of claw sharpening! Any 'friendly' tricks known to get these things to stay the hell away?!

Whilst walking through Wilkinsons the other day I spotted a cat repellent product made from gel.  Not sure how a slimey hood would look, but it may be worth placing it around the car.

Cats love the warmth the hood gives, so realistically unless you cover it, with something like a canvas roof cover, they are going to keep coming back.

I am allergic to cat hair and have tried all sorts in the past to keep next doors cat away from our house, even the garden. Nothing works. be warned there are plenty of gimmicks around that promise the earth but never deliver.

The only suggestion I can make is to purchase a car cover.

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

May I suggest in the investment of some fly paper or strong glue ? On the basis that none of the cat preventing devices / products work, why not see how many you can collect on your roof ? Will also make an interesting addition(s) to your car too that might catch on. Good luck.

I like this idea. It's suitably nasty enough to amuse me - cat starves to death because it's stuck to the roof - I'd pay to see that on Dragon's Den where you could market the idea for a quarter of the companies stock.

However, I'd pay more to see that smug twit from Dragon's Den - Theo Paphitis - stuck to the roof of something fast using the same method though.

This thread is all wrong - the title should be Theo Paphitis and my car.......

I have a similar problem with my MX5, except that it is my own cat and he is mostly white and practically lives on the roof!

The best way to deal with cats is water - a shotgun is likely to damage the car too much and could result in severe injury to yourself if the cat's owner is anything like me;-)

The fun way is with a supersoaker type water gun or you can get hose attachments that have a motion sensor so that cats get sprayed when the enter the garden. This may not be an option in an area with water shortages though.

Scents like lavender, rosemary or citronella can work as long as you don't mind it yourself. My own cat won't even walk through our herb bed in the garden and that has rosemary, lavender and sage in it - but other cats aren't bothered at all.

One of the sticky rollers you get for clothes is the best way to clear the hairs.

Now you have just taken it too far there Darth. Disgraceful.

Taking it too far is my mission statement - my gravestone will read Darth Balls: taking it too far since 1974

I've got it ! You sit in your car and wait until the little f@(ker sits down on your hood and then thrust upwards (maybe with a cry of "Aya bastard !") with a knitting needle. You see. Just takes the application of a little grey matter and there's always an answer.

Then you'd need to get a new roof because of the hole you've just put in it - you didn't think that through did you?
