Yesterday was great - F1 + Moto GP

    Jul 21, 2008 10:07 AM

Wow, real racing in F1 with people passing in real terms, and not just in the pits. Alonso driving an F1 car like a kart, Hamilton passing a Ferrari, big Glock accident (hopefully he's OK).

However, did you see the Moto GP? I know, it's bikes, but... the first 10 laps or so were incredible. Rossi off the track at the corkscrew then back on to almost wipe out Stoner. Absolute tooth and nail racing between them on a fabulous track (F1 guys take note and make some real gradients in tracks please). I think Rossi's won the psychological battle though as Stoner was a bit "moany" at the end. Very much looking forward to the balance of the season as Stoner has the faster bike for now, and I think it's now a grudge match.

I didn't see the Moto GP Paul but I did watch the F1 and I was blown away by how much better Hamilton is than the rest of the pack. The boy is a legend.

do or do not. there is no try.

After returning from the final day at the Open (not an American in sight, Hurrah), I sat down to watch the replay of the whole of the Moto GP on Eurosport and went on to watch the highlights of the German GP.

As you say Paul, WOW! Moto GP is the best form of motorsport event currently running. I will agree that the German GP pushed it close this time though.

Casey Stoner had the gaulle to say the racing and overtaking was too frenetic in the first half of the race cullminating in him cruising upto the back of Valentino Rossi, slamming on the brakes and falling off in the sand. His comments in my view were totally uncalled for. Had he been the one to come out on top I doubt Valentino would have stooped slow low as to almost accuse his fellow RACERS of such antics. The whole point of motorsport is to race and Valentino took the fight to Ducati and won fare and square.

Hamilton proved yet again (despite comments about him on in another blog) to have the measure of the Ferrari's and bring it home with room to spare, proving he is the only British hope currently in F1.

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

    A very good day indeed.

The GP was blinding and hats off to Hamilton who, despite being a tosser, drove a flawless race. I know I got hammered in my thread about him being a tool, but I can't deny he is a brilliant driver and I'm not sure I'd waste my money betting on someone else winning the championship. Fair play to him.

The moto GP was even better! Jorge Lorenzo must have filled that suit when he was flying through the air on the first lap, I know I would have. The Stoner/Rossi battle royale was only ever going to end one way, you could see Stoner getting more and more frustrated as the laps went by. I thought he was a bit silly moaning about it at the end but at least he seemed to have calmed down a bit by the podium.

What are the chances of the BBC using those two commentators when they get F1 back next. That would be worth the license fee alone.

    Pauldalg:
Great link! For me, one of the best MotoGP races for quite a long time and I suspect that Stoner has been dealt a Gibernau-esque psychological blow.
There is no such thing as bravery. Only degrees of fear.

Great link, though watching the full MotoGP race was riveting.  Brilliant in fact, especially if you know the track via Gran Turismo.  That corkscrew is pretty unique.  Rossi and Stoner were amazing.  There's stll more to come this season, and the next....

Hamilton....... lucked out in Hungary this weekend, though Massa  pulled an amazing  maneouvre at the start  and was sheer genius too.  After his unparalleled  entry into F1 last year, it's so unfair to see Hamilton as not delivering this  year - and by comparison he's not been as brilliant - but he's up there with a chance of the Championship again this year, which is still a mega-achievement.  He IS a driving sensation.

    Good post.  Thanks.

I am the world's fastest driver on Gran Turismo. The Tardis couldn't keep up with me.
