  • Revealed: Renault Megane R26-R

    Jun 05, 2008 12:04 PM

These are leaked pictures of the new Renault Megane R26-R - the most extreme Megane ever - which will debut at the London motor show in July.
The R26-R is a road-legal, track-focused model that will be stripped down to reduce weight. It will have just two bucket seats, polycarbonate windows, a carbonfibre bonnet and a slimmer exhaust system. The changes ensure that the limited-edition model weighs 125kg less than a Read the full article

125kg is pretty impressive, sounds like a serious effort. I wonder how much of the improved performance comes from the red wheels though? ;)

(I can't decide if they look good or just plain silly).

They look different and thats what it is all about to me, I mean if I was buying the top version I would want others to differentiate it from the standard R26.

    Love it.

Never thought I would say that about a Renault.

What is the choice on colour schemes?

A bit too hardcore for me.  I am not sure it will sell awfully well at the price either.

As an owner of the current R26 (I must say what a machine) i think that this is great, i like everything they have done to the car. I wont be having one though as the loss of back seats is a problem to me.

Well done Renault for making another mad vehicle keep up the good work.

Yep - I loved the 2nd generation Megane when it came out and everyone said Renault were bonkers then.

Yep, I have to say I generally dislike French cars due to many things I don't even need to speak about; however the sport versions of the Megane do tickle the senses for me. I have test driven one and they are superb at everything they do, although there are some niggles about quaility of build at least in my experience.

If I was a playboy though who had loads of money and could afford a 2nd car I'd probably go for one of these for weekend track day racing at nordschleife, hell I'd buy all my mates one as well so we could start our own R26-R cup lol!

Other than for track racing though, I think this car is a little too focused for me to use as a daily driver and I think that goes for most people... I'd love to have a go though, I bet it goes like stick on the circuit!
