  • Exclusive: Alfa Mito snapped

These are the best pictures yet of the new Alfa Mito, which will be one of the stars of the London motor show this July.
The car is expected to go on sale in the UK from January next year, and will finally provide direct competition for BMW’s all-conquering Mini.
Mito prices will kick off around £12,000, but it will offer far more rear cabin space and boot capacity than the Mini, as well as more powerful engines.

White does it no favours. Red all the way (after all, it *is* an Alfa).

I'm interested to find out more about the camless engine - I wasn't aware anyone was close to production.

I think it suits white, although probably not as much as the Fiat 500 or MINI. I think it definitely looks special and I'm glad to see that it will be making its World Debut at the British Motorshow! That's going to rake in loads of people, surely! However, the early pictures which I've seen of the interior seem to make it look very similar to a cross between a Fiat Grande Punto and a Panda. Whilst this is no disaster, it looks as if it's going to be a bit grey and black inside! Mind you, if the prices are competitive, which it looks as if they will be, this could be the car that revives Alfa!

And there was me thinking the Lancia Thesis was as ugly a car as you could get.

What are the Italians smoking these days?

I'm in the please spec' it in a dark colour brigade coz it looks droll in white. Bit like a Boxster in a Government crushing machine!!

I love the designs of some of the Alphas but think brand differentation has driven Alpha a bit too far on this occassion. It really is pretty ugly and bland - I've got it, a mini Cayenne!

That would be 'Alfa' not 'Alpha'. Just as it's 'Porsche', not 'Porshe'.

The proof will be how it looks in the real world, rather than carefully set-up studio publicity shots. The official shots of the car in red look far better, but they've clearly gone to some effort to set the lighting up 'just so'. White loses all the subtlety of design - it works on some cars, other just become jelly-moulds.

I thought the car in red in the preview shots looked really good, but this is awful; I'm not sure it's just the white colour, although that does it no favours, the pictures of the red car were all taken from a lower angle and did not show the full horror of those headlamps. They remind me of a Nissan Micra, not a good connection in my view. What a disappointment. I wouldn't buy one of these now on the looks alone (and I'm a Prius owner).

Although the Mito does not look as good in white as it does in red comparing it to the Cayenne is severely purblind and preposterous.

Your pedantry is an order of magnitude worse than mine. Go you.
