British plant to build new small soft-roader instead; Nissan Micra production to move to India
Autocar has learned that production of the Nissan Micra is to move from the British Sunderland factory to make room for a new model, understood to be a small soft-roader.

I think it's a shame that the Micra is about to become less British. It's been here in Britain for 16 years and now it's upping and offing. The QASHQAI is a great success because it's a great car, and I'm certain that the fairly practical-looking QASHQAI+2 will carry on that new tradition. I'm intrigued as to what this new small soft-roader will be - here's hoping it will be just as stylish and just as much of a success as the QASHQAI. But it will have to be pretty green - although I'd have thought that it would be considering QASHQAI 1.5 dCi's emissions are now down to 139 g/km. I really hope the next Micra will be similar to the outrageous Mixim Concept Car from Frankfurt las year - that would be a storming hit! I'm interested to see how Nissan are going to continue to grow and develop!
    Aygo. Simples.

I am not ashamed to confess that I had a British made Micra in the early 90s and it was a superb car. Shame its leaving. Good little cars.
