  • Price premium for new Passat CC

    May 13, 2008 1:45 PM

Volkswagen clearly believes it can charge a premium for style, judging by the newly-announced prices for its four-door, four-seater Passat CC ‘coupé’.
The new model’s entry-level, 158bhp, 1.8-litre TFSI variant will start at £21,040; that’s almost £4000 more than the similarly engined regular Passat. The range-topping, 3.6-litre V6 Passat CC, with four-wheel drive, costs £31,120, a...Read the full article

Those prices are insane!  Here in North America, the CC is expected to cost only a little more than the standard Passat.

Typical. The car manufacturers shaft the British motorist again. Oh for the strong Euro again so that we can buy our cars in Europe and get some competiton back. In fact, bugger it, the Pound is an anachronism and we should switch to the Euro. I think we should get rid of block exemption completely and then change to driving on the right. It would be painful but worth it in the long run.

I agree with Vili. This is massively greedy and shows a lack of faith in the boring saloon, VW letting us know they think it's boring too. Can the slammed version be four grand (that's $8000!) better?

Very Mercedes CLS and very good looking because of it. The £4k premium is certainly pushing the boat out a bit!

Interesting comment James about going Euro AND LHD James! Personally I think Europe should go RHD as most of us are right handers (your best hand) which seems best for having on the steering wheel while the 'dumb' (less skilful) left hand does the donkey work with the gear shift.

Argued this with my German Porsche dealer and they didn't have any come-back! However with Autos and sequentials now dominating the market it's increasingly a mute point.

I agree with the other posters that compared with the standard passat and the price charged in US it does look expensive.

However to me its a tempting proposition against say a 1.8 3-series or C-Class, which are similiarly priced albeit with less equipment but all share the same german quality and driveability.

£4k? Thats very greedy! Although i guess alot of that is made up by the increase in standard equipment.
