  • First look: Keating supercar

    Apr 23, 2008 12:58 PM

This is the new Keating SKR supercar. It has been launched by the fledgling British sports car maker today - St George’s Day - and Autocar will be among the first drive it.
Early details reveal a familiar low-volume sports car recipe. For a start it’s got a Chevrolet V8 engine, developing 404bhp and 400lb ft torque at an entry-level state of tune.
Keating will also offer a bored-out 500bhp version, along with supercharged 520 and 650bhp options. Each car will be built to suit individual c...Read the full article

Best of luck to them - I cannot help but think of this though (which does ring true on some counts!):

Maybe I'm just not a teenage boy anymore, but I can't see the point of this or many other 'supercars'. If it's just a track car then fine, but if they really want to market it as a road car, why?? All these sorts of cars look the same to me, far moreso than many 'eurobox' saloons that have the same accusation made against them. Who cares about 500bhp and 200mph in a car that is barely usable. Give me a 250bhp, 120mph AC Cobra anyday.

What happened to the "come back later for the Autocar review" at the foot of the article? I was looking forward to it...

Julian we were told we could drive it. Two of us went up to Southport to do so and when we got there we were told we couldn't drive it and nor could any other journalist. So apologies but it wasn't our fault this time. By the way the demo car's gearbox also went west as it was being driven in front of the assembled media. So, all in all, not a great day out for the Autocar team.

you would of been able to i believe, but someone drove over the white line.

this being a RAF base, they are quite strict,so they stopped anyone else testing it.

to me this looks a great car,and good luck to them, its good to see a British firm taking on the big boys.

there are links on the web to video of this car

Anyone know what happened to this car/company? It was implied elsewhere at the time that it was one of those situations where orders were needed in order for things to progress. Their website doesn't inspire confidence - its awful - but I would be interested to know how they are doing. Also Invicta, Connaught Type D GT, Breckland Beira (the one based on the Saturn Sky), etc I noticed on the Breckland website that they have, in the past, also produced the Tommy Kaira ZZ and the Mosler M900T. I remember the Tommy Kaira had decent reviews and was featured in Gran Turismo on the PS2...

The Breckland was featured on last nights Fifth Gear, and I do have to say it looks a lot better on moving film than it does in the photographs I have seen.  From what I can make out they are alive and very much kicking!

And I really quite fancy one!

As for the Keating, from what I have read about this car, I hope it sinks without a trace.  It looks awful in all respects!  I don't normally wish anyone bad luck, but this is clearly a company that are way way out of their depth.

    It's all about the twisties....

Thanks. You know it's impossible to register on your 'My Autocar' blog because the bit where you have to type the image into a text box, the image doesn't appear. Regarding Recaro seat wear - I once arranged for a dry cleaner in Surrey to fix it. They had an Italian tailor who managed to virtually invisibly repair a hole in the side bolsters of a mark2 Golf Gti using a dark cloth patch, some weird glue stuff that melted and disappeared and an industrial-looking iron. Was very cheap too. Think it was Swan laundrette...

"My Autocar" seems to have been abandoned by its owners.  I don't think it's been updated for ages!  Wasn't even sure anyone looked at it any more.  Don't really get a chance to blog that much any more, except when something interesting happens in my motoring life.  Thanks for looking though.

Ta for that, may look them up.  Got a quote the other day and nearly fell through the floor - £275!  The guy had a good reputation, but it was a little more than I figured for just one bolster!!
