    Volkswagen is planning to extend its existing line-up of four-wheel drives with a new mid-sized seven-seat offering to slot between the Tiguan and Touareg.
    The new model, which could go on sale in 2011, has been conceived as a rival to Volvo's recently introduced XC60. But rather than using the same platform as Audi's upcoming Q5, the VW will be built on a modified version of the next-generation Passat, known internally as PQ47.

    There's currently a gap in the market for a premium brand mini-SUV, or supersized (vertically!) saloon.   One for the older generation who are still mobile, but not agile as they once were.   Obviously Jaguar should do one, but they also need to do a rival for the Audi TT too (it would sell - easily).   The Tiguan ticks many of the boxes, and the VW brand does it no harm.   But looking at my own parents who drive an S-Type, they want to keep the Jaguar feeling, that of somewhere special to be, but they really need something that's easier for them to get in and out of.
