    Fueling madness

    Apr 11, 2008 8:53 PM

Right there may be no actual answer to this but it must be said as nobody seems to take this seriously.

I am a Scotsman who moved to Ireland to work last year and since arriving and driving here i have found that in the UK we actually aren't the most selfish drivers, things in the UK go without saying when it comes to driving and especially fueling a car, for example this morning i filled up only to look over to see some woman sitting in her car smoking as her partner filled his car....without batting an eyelid she puffed on.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, i was with my girlfriend in her friends car and she pulled in for fuel, got out the car and proceeded to fill up....i looked over and could see the rev counter still up as she had left the car running needless to say i turned it off and told her it was a stupid thing to do, but have seen others on the forecourt doing it.

I am starting to get really fed up here, the drivers are appalling the road manners are non existent and for someone who drives alot for work i feel perilously close to road rage.

Ireland has a serious problem in the fact that you do not need a license other than a provisional to drive a car...any car or van or even mini bus so there are a vast number of drivers who have no clue about the rules of the road, it is no wonder Ireland has the largest number of fatalies on the road, 368 men, woman and children were killed in 2006.

I have nothing more to really say and don't get me wrong i am not a prude i just enjoy driving and don't want to be a statistic due to someones poor judgment.

    Rant over

Got a piece of your mind. But  the situation is no better anywhere else. In India where I live there are instructions to switch off mobiles while in the fuel filling station premises. Nobody does that.

About the traffic the less said the better. Wantonness, little or no respect for other users, a me -first attitude and disorderliness are very common.

I went to a car meet a couple of years ago, and a 19 year old was overon his provisional licence. He wasnt insure in the UK and his licence wasnt valid as he didnt have a passenger with his that was "teaching" him. He ended up rolling his car on a back road because he switched the esp off and car was coming round the corner at the same time. thankfully, only himself was hurt, and the car was fixed eventually. It was looney driving. Now i was driving fast on same roads, but esp fixed on and slowing down cause i could see the traffic ahead.

If you want to see selfish driving though, just come to london! As another fellow scotsman I cant believe how unthankfully people are. Sad thing is, I have became like that myself in London now.
