  • First look: New LRX concept

    Mar 02, 2008 4:41 PM

If you were in any doubt about whether or not Land Rover will build a production version of the LRX here’s more proof that it’s going to happen.
This is the second version of the LRX concept, due to be unveiled at Geneva and although its ostensibly very similar to the white car unveiled in January, it represents what Land Rover calls “a contemporary example of personalisation.”
That means black paint, a silver roof and new detailing such as mesh inserts in the air intakes. It could also ...Read the full article

This looks great, I think. Wouldn't it be excellent if they put the TDV8 engine in it. Land Rover, listen ! Please put a good engine in it !

Thought it was fantastic in white but it's absolutely beautiful in black. Stunning!

Can't get my head round why Ford would want to sell Jaguar and Land Rover when they're on the cusp of reaping some rewards from their heavy investments and development of these 2 strong brands!

When you see the volume sector under so much pressure from Asian manufacturers surely the smartest route to future success is in exactly this type of brand-investment strategy?

If I was Ford I'd close the sales process without a second thought... if I was smart!!

It certainly looks good - not doubt about that. I dare say it will also be a great drive. However, can we have a Land Rover that normal people can actually afford? What's the betting this model will be pushed even further upmarket as Land Rover look to enhance the 'premium' element of this vehicle? Look forward to seeing it in action though - should be good.

I wish I had a nice car and got paid to drive / enjoy it all day...

Stunning and just beautiful, I don't mind upmarket Landies.

    The Green campaigners can't complain.

    TDV8 or 5.0litre V8 would be nice!

LISTEN IDIOTS DON'T SELL JLR before dawn!

Am I the only one who thinks it looks rubbish?

In this world gone mad, we won't spank the monkey, the monkey will spank us!

    Yes.

Well, "rubbish" is probably stretching it but "unimaginative" might not be. Stick five doors on it instead of three and it'll look like a RR Sport with a rising waist line that shrunk a little in the wash. But only a little. At 10mm shorter than a Disco (if memory serves correct from previous stories), it's still pretty damned big. We're always being promised smaller, lighter Land Rovers. When will they finally appear?

I share your view on this and wonder aloud whether it has to do with the way the legislative wind is blowing - and whether you agree with the direction of the wind or not is immaterial - how do you make standalong brands like RR or Jag meet any kind of future general emissions regs? Like only a handful of other manufacturers - Porsche and its anti-Ken campaign being another - they make quite a large number of high emissions vehicles but nothing smaller to balance them out. Perhaps its a headache that Ford doesn't want to tackle.

    Arrrrrrrrrrghhhhh !

You make them lighter. Jag already knows how to do this.

They know but they don't - at least yet and not for some years to come. If the LRX is based on the Disco and pitched at a similar price point, then there will be no aluminium in there. It will unavoidably weigh about the same as a Disco.
