The hot hatch has always exemplified the variety of nations. The traditional French recipe is to build them thin and light, with a devil-may-care attitude to passive rear-wheel steer. The German way is to build them solid, the Italian way to provide a scene-stealing engine and performance.

The Japanese, as you might expect, major on technology, and the previous Honda Civic Type R summed this up nicely. The widely revered Civic Type R brand was born from a potent mix of circuit, street a...Read the full article

It seems that the new Type R engenders high feelings.

Having owned mine since May, I can concur, and must state that my feeling is one of hate.

I am on my sixth Honda, two Preludes, one S2000, and two previous generation Type R's, and this new Type R is just a bag of bolts.

I am on my third door strap on the drivers side, they keep failing, it rattles even after the dealer has had it in, the battery is on the way out, it rides and handles poorly, and the fit and finish is definitely not up to usual Honda standards.

Even the technician at the dealers stated that the Type R was not a good car.

    My latest and last Honda.

Don't give up!  I really can't see that Honda UK are that short sighted and don't realise that this car is not very good.  They must be smarting from the rave reviews the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Civic Type R gets in comparison.

My optimistic side believes there must be a revised version on the horizon.

If not, Mr Honda UK, do you need some one to help you develop one!

    It's all about the twisties....

funny,a couple of years on and the type r is looked on fondly by the public and motoring press alike with the original criticism largely forgotten......in fact im looking around for a nice low mileage one myself,as its a surprisingly fast but practical hatch....
