  • Ford Focus RS500 'sold out'

    Apr 06, 2010 12:16 AM

The limited edition Ford Focus RS500 effectively sold out within 12 hours of being revealed, even though prices haven't been announced yet.

According to a Ford insider, this extraordinary situation occured despite Ford being forced to unveil the car almost 48 hours earlier than planned, meaning dealers were not aware of its existence.

"The car’s exterior is finished in a matt black paint"

I thought the car was finished in a mat plastic film produced by 3M, it's not a paint.

For the deposit, £1.7 million gives you the keys, but we keep it for you here, you can only drive it in our car park.

I suggest you re-read the article, it does indeed confirm that a gloss paint is applied at the factory then the car is shipped to 3M to have a matt black film put on it.

I did read it, hence look at the quote i gave, autocar says the paint is matt, not gloss

    But then says........

The car’s exterior is finished in a matt black paint unique to the RS500. Standard gloss black paint is applied in the factory, and then he cars are shipped to coatings specialist 3M’s site near Frankfurt, where a matt film is laid over the top. The gloss paint is retained on the lower grille and splitter, the rear spoiler and the rear diffuser. Brake calipers are finished in red.

It was obviously a typo as the original story was kept underneath, it's Autocar and it's innate ability to keep tripping itself up, hence the spelling mistake in the above copied text also.

Just when you thought Ford couldn't possibly make a more hideous and tacky Focus than the current RS...........

And this is why Ford forecast sales of the original Focus RS Mk II at 8,000 cars by close of production this year but now expect thatwill be able to sell 11,000 cars.  And the 100 Focus RS 500s (for the UK) are over subscribed by 4 times within 48 hours of the news leaking about this model.  Yes its good to have a view on what is hideous or not but you can't ignore the facts about the popularity of this RS model (and did I mention the re-sale values are good...)

How do you know the resale values are good? we need to go forward in time to find that out.

A used Golf Gti is more desirable.

For most people yes, the RS500 would be too much fun.
I guess you need to be a true petrol head to enjoy such a car.

Ford's RS models tend to hold their values pretty well.
Obviously there are enough petrol heads around.

Without doubt you are not completely sane
