  • BMW 5-series Touring revealed

    Mar 13, 2010 11:48 PM

This is the new BMW 5-series Touring, the load-carrying variant of the new 5-series that will have a larger boot capacity than the model it replaces when it reaches British showrooms in September.

Priced from £30,380, it will join the new saloon and GT in the 5-series line-up and compete head on with the recently released Mercedes E-class estate.

    Its Ok....

But I'm not keen on the X1 style rear, nor the "one design fits all" BMW philosophy.

If it was my money, I would go for the E class estate any day. I think it looks much better.

Was enjoying the long string of pictures until I got to the last one - the interior. Those windscreen pillars are so very wide they just look ridiculous. A ten year old 5-Series would be a much safer car to drive.

as the worlds biggest bmw fan boy, its safe to say this is an ugly car, mediocre at best.

bmw can do better, who designed this piece of crap the panamera designer....

also looking at the picuture showing the full generations next to each other the car seems to come from a line of uggos.

to be honest theres not really any good looking estates anyway but this will probably be the best to drive and run day to day

ALSO why does it share an identical INTERIOR TO THE 7 SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wots the point in charging 60 grand for one car and 37 for another and having alomost idential interiors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WHO MAKES THESE DECISIONS

also can bmw please stop installing elephant leather in their cars, and then telling every1 its standard so every1 is happy.

Damn, that's one ugly rump! Like the previous 5Touring, it's got far too much sheet metal between the number plate and the bottom of the rear windscreen - rear visibility will be lousy, too. And the A-pillar is far too thick. Bring back the lovely glasshouse E39! Or even the E34... I think they could easily integrate the current side shape (with that crease along the door handles) with the more glassy look of the E34/9. They're just trying to make it look 'sportier' than the saloon, which I don't see the point of. As in most cases, the estate is better-looking than the saloon anyway (cf. E34 - not so sure about E39, they're both cracking good-looking cars - plus the Audi A6, Audi A4, last-gen Merc E-class, last-gen Subaru Legacy, Jaguar X-type, Alfa Romeo 156/159, Saab 9-5...), so I don't understand why they feel the need to make the boot look as small as they have (with that stupid tiny rear windscreen and rear side windows) yet still give it the same heavy-looking arse its predecessor had. I think the E34 had it right - make the tailgate as glassy as possible to avoid making its rear look too heavy.

And, yes, why have they made the interior EXACTLY the same as the 7-series?

And don't even get me going on the pointless abomination that is the 5GT (I sat in one recently and even though I'm not quite 5ft 10, with my head against the rear headrests, it was also wedged against the roof - some GT, eh!).

Save over £10K and buy a Skoda Superb - the grill is not so 'in your face' ugly and the boot is bigger. Just as well built.

Great suggestion, pity it isn't rear-wheel-drive. Superb - in order to really live up to its name - needs to work upmarket, aiming straight for the likes of the 7-series. I think the Skoda badge won't be such a problem, it's now so associated with quality products - if anything, I think it's got less baggage for a truly premium product than the VW badge had for the Phaeton.

I think it looks far better than the saloon
Has the most boring car ever created, but I'm enjoying bangernomics in a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GS in green!
