  • Juke 'saves Sunderland jobs'

    Mar 10, 2010 10:12 AM

The new Nissan Juke will help to save 1000 jobs at the firm's Sunderland plant and another 2000 in the supply industry, according to the Japanese manufacturer.

The new small crossover will play its part in the trend of moving supermini production to low-cost countries such as India when it replaces the Micra at the firm's plant in Sunderland.

    talk, just talk

I wonder, now in this era of economic downturn, how many out their need and are  able to spend their scarce money in JUNK

people need economic, affordable and practical cars, not toys!

Juke "saves Sunderland jobs" , but for how long? I wouldn't like to put money on this "car" being a runaway success.

obviously one man's Juke is another man's Joke Auris. Not much sign here of UK's weaker pound helping British manufacturing exports.

I wouldn't like to put money on this "car" not being a runaway success Uncle. I don't like it but then I'm a middle aged fart that Nissan don't expect to like it though I conceed it is an original and brave concept and applaud Nissan accordingly. The car is so different that I'm unsure of what way this car will go. If it flops it flops and it wont break my heart. But it could be the next big thing and in 3 or 4 years every manufacturer will be punting copycat, funky mini SUVs.

As for HorseandCart so good to see you're putting out your little rays of sunshine as always.

The juke could be a strategic plan by nissan to give them an excuse to close UK factories, they must know the juke wont be a seller.

Got a problem with facts, mate? It's relevant - car industry related, like the Nissan story - and more topical and concrete than this supposition, nissan Joke Juke story. Your kind don't like people knowing truth. Funny how Autocar failed to report other relevant 'rays of sunshine' like Audi's substantial profit for crisis year 2009 or its sales being markedly up in Feb '10, etc, etc. But that wouldn't fit the narrative, would it, Mr slaphead?

My god this forum can be as bright and sunny as an Ibsen play. I like the Juke. Its cheeky, fun  with some nice touches inside. This car  at least to me, looks like a butch puffed up MIcra which i think works. It will probably sell as well as the Micra and probably more to people wandering into the showroom who might have previously gone for the old Micra, Note or even Qashqai and liked what they see

Thats true fuzzy, but the last micra was a failure in popularity. If they make good profit on each unit maybe the juke will do better. but the new micra heading for uk seems like another poor show, unless they sell it ultra cheap.

Yes , Im not so keen on the new Micra. I have a feeling alot of people will be disappointed with the lacklustre styling of the new Micra & will plump for this. I hope it does well- if only for the mere reason it may break up the monotony of seeing French noddy vans, passats and bland Korean supermini's on the roads today

Didn't you read a reply I made to you recently about just how dire things are in the UK Construction Industry? Things ARE bad and I have no problems saying so. What I do have a problem with is having my nose rubbed in bad news delivered in what comes accross as a particularly gloating tone. Thing is Horsey while this cyclical recession lasts my office is going to look like a ghost town. Those of us left in employment have had no pay rise, no bonus or had a company car replaced since the end of 2007. A lot of the lads ran German company cars. If things pick up a car I am seriously considering buying the VW Bluesport (and thus I hope VW move from strength to strength and hurry up and make the bloody thing). I would have expected you to express some hope, therefore, that the UK is fortunate enough to experience an economic upturn.

When I saw you had posted a link I assumed it would be the UK balance of payments deficit (now there's a ray of sunshine). I noted that one problem (among many) attibuted to poor UK export figures was a lack of recovery of European economies and thus I wish all European countries well.

Will you wish us well Horsey? or are you quite happy to remain the personification of belligerence?

Toyota's situation at the moment is unfortunate but aren't Nissan's sunderland factory working at full pelt. They're employing new workers and introducing a 3rd shift to meet orders. You can't just stick an article from the news about Toyota when the topic is about a completely different company
