  • The Autocar Awards: results

    Jan 29, 2008 10:27 AM

Jaguar’s all-important new XF saloon, to be launched early next year, last night won its first major accolade, Autocar magazine’s annual Design Award for 2007.
The honour was one of nine announced by Chas Hallett, Autocar’s editor, at a ceremony in Westminster attended by more than 400 motor industry leaders and celebrities from Europe, the US and Asia. The awards panel made special note of the exceptional achievement of Jaguar’s designers and engineers in resisting ‘retro’ styling and leap-f...Read the full article

Not so new "Idea of the Year" award

"The most poignant award was Autocar’s Idea of the Year, which went to the McRae Enduro, a “supercar for the desert” to which the McRae family of rally champions – including 1995 WRC title winner Colin, recently tragically killed in a helicopter accident – have lent their name. This super-tough, diesel-powered racer aims to cater for teams and private entrants in extreme events like the Dakar Rally. One day the McRae Enduro will be a road car too, the outfit has just confirmed."

errrrr, hang on a second what has Bowler Off Road being doing for the past 7 years. In the 2008 Dakar Rally Bowler (based in Derbyshire, UK) had over 30 vehicles entered, including a team of customer supported vehicles. In fact Bowler is at its second generation of this type of vehicle, after massive success with the Wildcat, the Nemesis is currently taking up the challenge.

Nice to see Autocar doing its research. try this; www.bowler-offroad.com

Have Autocar recognised Lewis Hamilton's achievements in the past, when he was actually winning drivers championships?

Or do you just recognise his achievements when he has failed to win the one major championship to elude him?

    Harsh? possibly.

    True? absolutely.

We have something built into our psychy that means we must award failure. why?

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

Actually looking through some of these awards, have the "judges" managed to look through anything other than the last couple of  month's press releases or watched Top Gear and 5th Gear?
