The forthcoming BMW Megacity vehicle, a zero-emissions electric city car, will be built at BMW’s Leipzig plant in Germany.

The new car will be launched in the next three years, and will be badged as what BMW calls “ a sub-brand of BMW”. Recent speculation has suggested it will be a Mini.

BMW has formed a joint venture with carbonfibre producer SGL to make carbonfibre-reinforced plastics for the car’s panels at its plant in Landshut.

Presumably they will replace all the coal, gas and oil fired power stations that provide the bulk of our electricity here with ones running on fairy dust, to support their claim of zero emissions.

Unless they think nuclear waste is a harmless emission, they'll be getting rid of nuclear power stations too.

    'Zero emissions'. Utter, utter twadle.

There has been lots of speculation that it won't be a Mini and will be another of BMW's vast selection of old badges being resurrected.  The old Messersmit name from the bubble car was one and Triumph is another.

I doubt it will be Mini as the car will represent all new technology and wrapping that up in retro clothing wont suit the image of what they trying to achieve.  It should be a BMW plus a new name not number.  Then at some time the new name can go it alone as a new brand, similar to Toyota and Prius which will become a brand and whole new range.

Isetta *checks spelling* or MessySmith I could live with... but Not, no way, no how...  Unequvocally NOT Triumph. That's just one sacrilige too far...

Take no notice, I'm only here for the biscuits

whatever they chose i hope they will create an interesting design for it and will have a reasonable price. If it will be a disappointment BMW will get a big "punch" in the face.
