  • Skoda Octavia gets 7spd DSG

    Feb 06, 2010 10:33 AM

Skoda has added VW Group’s seven-speed gearbox to the Octavia range.

The 105bhp 1.2-litre TSI engine, which first saw service for Skoda in the Yeti, has also been made available in the Octavia for the first time. It can be mated to either a six-speed manual or the seven-speed DSG gearbox.

The engine, available in both hatchback and estate models, helps the Octavia hatchback achieve, combined fuel economy of 49.6mpg, CO2 emissions of 134g/km and can get it from 0-62mph in 10.8sec.Read the full article

Isn't this old news as you're already running one on your long term test fleet?

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

They also really need to change the 2.0PD unit to the 2.0CR. My parents are looking at an Octavia to replace their second car and at the moment its a no brainer between a rattly PD unit that does 44mpg and costs the same amount to insure as a smooth and quick 1.8tsi that does 37mpg (they're looking at the Scout). I wonder how much better will the 1.2tsi be with the 7 speed dsg compared to the 6 speed manual? (diminishing returns - going from 4 to 5 forward gears, amazing. Going to 6, pretty OK and nice thing to have on the motorway. Going to 7+?)

A tuned version of this engine and DSG would be great in the upcoming VW lupo.

The 1.6 TDI is a CR unit and will, I expect, soon completely replace the old 1.9 PD engine.  Oddly enough the 170bhp 2.0 TDI in the diesel vRS is CR, but the 140bhp 2.0 is still a PD.  Don't ask me why...
