  • Porsche plans low CO2 Boxster

    Jan 04, 2010 12:29 AM

Porsche’s next Boxster range could include a low-CO2 model using a new four-cylinder engine or even a turbocharged three-cylinder powerplant, a senior company source has confirmed.

Boxster model line director Hans-Jurgen Wohler told Autocar that a version of the firm’s entry-level model with a downsized engine would be one way to reduce Porsche’s fleet emissions, were it required by the time EU emissions limits apply to car makers in 2012.

I think this would be really good, Ive never driven a Boxter (nor indeed any Porsche if Im honest) but I gather the Boxter has a fantastic chassis & is top of the class for handling, that opinion seems unanimous. A 180bhp version would still seem very fast to most people (in a lightweight car such as the Boxter) & would just take that amazing driving experience to a wider audience.

I believe the original 911 was sold for a while as a 4cyl, called the 912, if Im not mistaken? So its certainly not betraying Porsches heritage, certainly not as much as the Cayenne & Panamera are =D

Still a Rover fan although currently driving a Celica :)

Make mine a triple 1.5 please with 150bhp and 195 tyres will do nicely;o) though 180CO2 is rubbish thats more than many 4x4s. Needs to be under 110 else its just another lump.

Could they get away with using the same pistons out of a six? Also why not make it fit in a Polo too, oh I mean an A1 to give it a USP, bit like those bright blue 80 Avants you use to see years ago, they were nice.
