British sports car manufacturer Climax Cars has revealed production plans for a roadgoing racer to rival the Ariel Atom V8 and Caparo T1.

The rear-drive Climax Sports Racer will be limited to just 200 units and will be built at its production facility in Coventry. It is powered by a Ford Racing-supplied 4.6-litre V8, which produces 345bhp and 305lb ft. A supercharged S version increases power to 415bhp. Weight has been kept down to just 907kg thanks to Climax’s use of aluminium in its chassis and bodywork. This gives the standard car a power-to-weight ratio of 345bhp per tonne, greater than that of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. This increases to 415bhp per tonne in the supercharged model.

Your power-to-weight ratios are a bit off there really. I presume it should be:

380 for standard, 457 for the S version.

If you thought the power-to-weight ratio was a BIT off, check out the size:

"The Sports Racer is 1840mm wide, 14390mm long and 2610mm high."

 I think someone should tell him that its probably best to measure the car AFTER its been taken off the transporter... you know, just to avoid any confusion between the two vehicles ;-)

 

With 415bhp and 907kg this couldn’t hope to keep up with a Caparo or an Atom V8, not much of a rival.

I lose trust when I am pulled in to reading an article based on a headline implying that a car will rival the atom V8, then read it and find it's not true at all. I find it difficult to believe that you actually think thats true, which makes it cheap journalism at best, and lying by any other name. The Atom V8 produces over 500 HP in a 500 Kg body with race proven handling. This vehicle has unknown handling, no race history, a lot less horsepower and weighs getting on for twice as much. It genuinely wouldn't see which way a standard Atom went, let alone a V8. Give over.

Wow a lot of car for your money over 14m long and 2.6m high ! In old money that is 8 ' 6" high and over 46 feet long. Bigger than a 40' shipping container.

Would it be too much to ask if someone checked these press releases for accuracy before publishing them !

The quotes attributed to Climax themselves are understandably ambitious, but sensibly don't make claims like this. I wish them well, and am pleased that they believe that good build quality is important. Also, their car is certainly eyecatching, and not in a bad way - critical for a car asking that sort of wedge with no provenance. They need to make sure it really is well put together, and it's a very good real world or track drive, or they will will be genuinely lucky to sell more than single figures.

I wondered if I'd been a bit hard on Autocar about this article, bearing in mind how difficult it is to produce interestingly written articles on cars day after day, but I don't think so. I think the title 'Unknown geezers offer 415 HP car' may have seemed too frank for interest, but I would have clicked on the article, and at least it's honest.

 Figures do sound wrong but I'm hoping they do well as these guys graduated from the same Transport design course in Coventry I'm on a few years back.

 Good luck to them. Am slightly miffed though, I saw the car up the hill at GFOS a few years back and I thought there was talk of a hybrid powertrain? Probably stretchgin development costs too far for a fledgling company, but a shame that a dinosaur Mustang V8 engine is used..

Nice supercar Climax!!  A shame its not as nice as The Spirra-A Korean Supercar with a Very Souped up Hyundai Genesis Engine.

Its 62,000 Pounds, and its a shame you guys in over in Europe will get it first.
