  • Report: Schuey agrees Merc deal

    Dec 14, 2009 10:41 AM

Michael Schumacher has agreed a 3.5 million euro deal (£3.1m) to drive for Mercedes GP in Formula One next season, according to German media reports.

Daily newspaper Bild and news magazine Focus both quote an unnamed source close to the seven-time world champion, who claims a one-year verbal contract has been agreed between Mercedes and the German.

The source claims Schumacher’s talks with Ferrari about him leaving his consultancy role have been positive and as soon as he gets the ...Read the full article

    according to Autocar's F1 'insider':

Why Schuey won't race for Mercedes

It took the well-reasoned tones of Ross Brawn this week to tell is what we all really knew all along. Michael Schumacher is not going to make a full-time F1 comeback to drive for the Mercedes F1 team.

for once this is apt: ROFLMAO.

It's a bit less money than I thought he was getting, but that only proves further why he's returning to racing.

I'm sure Schumacher will revel in this reunion with Ross Brawn, and F1 fans will be overjoyed to see him leading a new team and back at the heart of the sport he defines.

With his Grand Prix comeback almost confirmed, anticipation of the 2010 season now holds another order of excitement.

    I'm not.

Can't wait to see Lewis, Fernando, Sebastian and Felipe beat him.

Well, you may not be, but true F1 fans will be ecstatic.

Either way, we'll all have the enjoyment of seeing the greatest Champion that ever lived dominating the sport again.

I disagree that he is the greatest (for me that has to be Ayrton Senna), but I am looking forward to the prospect of him competing again - will definitely add some extra spice to next year's season!

I've been an avid fan for 30 years and the Schumacher years were the least enjoyable.

The racing was not that good and there was no one, except Mika Häkkinen and laterly Fernando Alonso who consistantly got near him. Damon Hill in the Williams did well to string his championship together, by graft and a good car, rather than the nateral talent of MS. JV fell in to a good car and then a bad one.

Schumacher's excessive and dubious tactics were not necessary and unbecoming of his talent and stature.

The racing since Schumacher's retirement has been cleaner and better.

I think he needs F1 more than F1 needs him.

(Or should I say Ross Brawn needs him)

If Schuey competes I suspect he'll probably win the Championship. If he's uncompetitive I doubt he'll complete the season . Jenson won it but struggled mid-season when the car was a bit of a pig. Michael can drive a good car, but he can also grab a bad one by the scruff of it's neck and drag it round. So he'll be more competitive more often.

    Never trust a cow.

Maybe, but Brawn's problem is that they didn't step forward with the car during the season last year, whereas Red Bull and McLaren did.

Ferrari are "doing a Brawn" and started the 2010 car early

So it's going to be interesting to see where the cars are reletive to one another

I think the best thing for Schuey would be to sign as a test driver with an option to race if the car is ok and his neck holds up to it.

Was Fangio better than Senna?, it's all subjective, the most wins, the most points, the most championships, it's like a game of top trumps, pointless, there all the best in their era, we'll never know if Fangio was as good or better than Senna, or that Schumacher was better than Senna, even if they were still alive we'd still never know, Schumacher coming back means one thing, more interest in the sport, to see if he can still cut it with the young ones, and ultimately more money for King Bernie!

ultimately more money for King Bernie

    THAT's the real reason! ;-)
