  • Audi reveals new A1 details

Audi will be pegging prices of the A1 close to the Mini, an inside source has revealed.

The upmarket supermini, due to go on sale at the end of 2010, is likely to start at around £13,000 for the base three-door model, although the bulk of the range will retail between £15,000 to £20,000.

As with a lot of your VAG articles, the engine details are wrong....

The 85PS and 105PS 1.2 engines are turbocharged.

The 122PS 1.4 engine is also turbocharged

The 170PS 1.4 engine is turbocharged and supercharged.

Please research before posting these in-accurate stories.

Indeed, especially with the new A8 launching later today. Surprised there haven't been any leaked photos or details in the last few days.

Apologies. You are, of course, correct. Absolutely my mistake. Perhaps you'd care to illuminate us on what the exact engine line up will be when the A1 goes on sale?

It's hideous, champagne at the ready for Mini IF it looks anything like that.

The only field this could rival the Mini is the snob appeal - Mini is too popular these days but I guess that some people will find the four rings and LED christmas lights more exclusive. Of course, an average Fiesta will be a better drive, but I seriously doubt that any hairdresser will care.

I don't think it's that bad looking. The problem with the Mini is the ride in town - I know it's a sporty little thing but the crashiness is a pain. If the Audi is significantly better I'll be recommending my partner has a test drive when she replaces hers.

Shame no further details about a possible hybrid - the combination of a front wheel drive petrol engine / option of a rear wheel drive electric only and 4 wheel drive using both power sources was intriguing.

You can take for granted that the top line A1 will have 4wd. We know they're seriously considering an S1 which will be v.interesting. As for hybrid I understand that the priority is to get hybrid on the big stuff: Q7 and A8 etc. An electric A1 could be interesting though...

"Audi sources say that the company is keen to offer A1 buyers a similar ownership experience to that of the Mini. That’s likely to include a wide range of options to personalise your car and the company is planning a all-in service package, designed to give a fixed ownership cost over three or five years."

Well let's hope it has a collect and return service through a third party! It's the only way they will improve the ownership experience, apart from building it correctly.

For me, Audi seem to be going backwards, with these badge engineered VWs. Audi 50 anyone?

£20k for a Polo, that's a bit pricey. Mind if VW can charge up to £25 for a diesel Golf....Still it will be a hit with Estate Agents and Media Sales people......
