  • New Nissan Micra spied

    Nov 27, 2009 3:13 PM

The new Nissan Micra has been spied testing in the UK.

Spotted by autocar.co.uk reader Mark Waites, the heavily disguised car was running on the M1, heading back to Nissan's Technical Centre in Cranfield, which is undertaking much of the development work on the car.

While Waites was unable to get a close up picture of the whole car, his photos clearly show the distinctly curved rear end of the car and the overall shape of it.

the new nissan micra is a very important world car, and should be taken seriously, as a bench mark model.

the current micra is not a world car, probably as it was ugly, the next one might have a chance.

the micra has never been a huge hit probably for its ugliness and the ability to not appeal to any one group. time will tell i suspect another flop

Sorry, a car that has consistently been in the top 10 sales is a sales flop according to you. I'd hate to see your definition of a 'runaway success'!As for the looks, it has a very clearly defined market, and allures to that segment. Also, it is the base of 4 other models in the Nissan range. So it is an extremely important model for Nissan and also for the workers in Sunderland... Now for a childish it... You drive a Vauxhall...funny!

    - actually really like the micra and the new one coming; i think they are really nice cars, maybe not the common type Euro box but then again as Mart_J points out they sell like hot cakes and thus plenty of other people obviously agree.

-they have a great charm to them and are a really pleasing car to look at and they are manufactured in the UK and a lot of engineering work (as is pointed out) that goes into them is done here at the Nissan EU design centre at Cranfield

-so its great for UK jobs are and they are of lower emissions then the competition! cannot help thinking of the Olympics bid and how much more polluting the BM fleet is compared to the Nissan and Renault Fleet!

Isn't the new Micra being built in India? This is to make room at Sunderland for the new Qazana, I believe.

I always enjoyed driving the 'Mk2' (K11) Micra - for its time, it offered a really decent driving experience by supermini standards of the early '90s.

-Paul123, i am not sure, i thought the micra was staying, i thought some were being built in india targeted at developing markets and the EU ones built here - but i could be totally wrong?? - but at least some engineering work was done here which is great.

    - some reports suggest that it will not be made there any more and some that say no official confirmation has been given?? so i was not sure, i was thinking as per the above - but apologies if totally incorrect!

-they are definately getting the Qazana (!!!!) - which is super cool and i have seen there is gossip that the EU Leaf production will come to the UK - they have already got the batteries (as i understand!!)

-but if it has definately been descided re. micra please do post; i know they are bringing more and more to the plant i.e. the batteries and the fantastic Qazana but it would have been nice if the micra was still there also! - but, still more jobs for the UK thanks to Nissan and all its workers and of course all its UK workers!! (who work hard and do a great job!!)

The new Micra will be a globel car built in 3 factories none of which will be in the uk. the Micra will be replaced on the production line with the Qazana. probably to keep costs down as the current micra is looking a little pricy these days.
