Renault's decision to call it electric supermini Zoe has caused uproar in France.

Press reports suggest parents of children named Zoe are reported to have flooded the company with complaints and launched online petitions demanding the name be changed.

 Zoe is Greek for life. the only ones who should at least have the slightest right to complaint are therefore the Greeks and I don't see any of them much bothered about it. why make such a fuss about a car's name?! the Elise never had such problems....

Could have been worse, they were going to call it Muhammad.

The Renault Kevin - sounds much more dynamic and modern ...

I personally think Butch is a pretty cool name for a car, very masculine, hardcore, just like those zero emission vehicles Renault will try selling.

This is funny - just had a look at what the 17th most popular girl's name is in the UK and for the most recent year I can find (2007), it is - wait for it - Megan!

Well people are naming their children after cars here - look at Kia! Besides, Renault used the Zoe name back in about 2004 for the little Zoe concept which was supposedly meant to preview the Twingo. There are tons of products around that have human names - look at the Henry, Hetty and Charles vacuum cleaners! Mercedes! Mind you, Renault might not even end up calling it Zoe.

Renault should leave the "Z" cars to Nissan , and name it something else ( Elle ? )

Fair enough. My dog's objections to the use of his name got an entire car company closed down.
