  • On video: R500 vs Ducati

The new Caterham R500 has 520bhp per tonne. A Ducati Hypermotard 1100 S has 473bhp per tonne. So which is quicker on a B-road?
Steve Sutcliffe took to the Millbrook Hill Route in the Caterham to find out if the latest in Catherham’s long line of mega-performance lightweights is quick enough to beat a modern superbike in “real world” conditions.

This is a joke! While the Ducati Hypermotard is a very able bike, it is certainly not the motorcycle equivalent of the R500, which is stripped out and track focused, neither of which the Hypermotard can claim to be. This test should have tested the R500 against a 1098R or one of the Japanesse superbikes (Ninja ZX-10R, 1000RR Fireblade, R1, GSX-R1000 etc...) to give a more accurate result on if "bikes really are faster then cars"!

Totally agree with e5s.  What were the reasons for choosing the Hypermotard?

Still totally thrilling to watch.  Both biker - if not bike - and to see R500 in action.

Sutters does it again.  DId all that F1 car experience come in handy?
