    Rover 800 Coupe anyone....?

    May 15, 2008 8:19 PM

I know, I know, the pure title must put most folks off.....but hear me out please. Can anyone put me in the right direction to find a Rover 800 Coupe sketch/proposition that was featured in AUTOCAR roughly 5-7 years ago? It was wonderfully gorgeous and I've seen no pics of it since. Obviously it never made production, but I just need to satisfy my curiosity.

     Thanks

    Mark

I've never considered the old Rover 800, in all it's guises, a 'pile of crap', Jimmy-boy.

It had a large following, many choosing it over the Vauxhall Omega and Ford Scorpio. Though the latter was a visual confoundment.

Much of Rovers problem was down to those who knew someone, who knew someone, that had a cousin, who's best friends Dad had a Rover and it was a nightmare..... I, personally, know of someone who brothers mates, second cousin (twice removed), friends aunts, nieghbour who had a BMW that would never start and leaked from the windscreen. Therefore, all BMW's are rubbish.

    Rovers were brilliant.

Steveo - it might have been reliable but bloody hell its hardly a looker is it ? Its the car equivalent of the colour beige. Safe. Comforting. A friend to the elderly. Dull. Boring. Unimaginative. Unlikely to be interesting to the opposite sex (or same sex if you are a gay).

You can bet, because its a Rover product, that it will be tinnily put together and probably rusting to buggery by now.

My sympathy to your brothers mates, second cousin (twice removed), friends aunts, nieghbour's BMW. Sounds shocking.

Rovers were not brilliant. Not since the P4 and P5 anyway. Quite fancy a P5 Coupe 3500.

The saloon was relatively well regarded at the time it was launched, unfortunately the Coupe came out when the saloon was already six or seven years old and should have been on its next lifecycle. I remember as a young child my dad choosing between the Sterling saloon and a Jag XJ6. He went for the Jag in the end and I was totally gutted because the Sterling had amazing sliding rear seats! I also remember CAR magazine rating it very highly, above the Jaguar - a cover story if I remember correctly.

Remember this ? That would have been a great car had it ever been produced (although not in that colour).

OOOOps - Meant the 75 and not the 800! Here it is. Still think it's a real looker!

The Rover 75 is beautiful car. Richard Woolley had a real hit there.

I still miss mine whilst crashing over bumps on the road, where the 75 glided over them.

Very nice indeed - I'd never seen that before.

Maybe it'll resurface as a Roewe?

It looks like a scaled down Bentley. Not bad at all.
