So, the next in our potted series of automotive unsung heros.

Who can name the person that invented the modern assembly line? The concept of mass produced cars?

Who would you say is up there with Karl Benz in terms of actually bringing the car to the planet. A designer of some of the very first steam and petrol driven cars?

One of the most famous American motoring brands?

I bet you're all thinking of Henry Ford, aren't you? WRONG!

Gentleman, I give you, Ransom Olds!

Oldsmobile preceded Ford Motor Co by 6 years, inevnting the modern assembly line which Henry Ford went on to improve some 3 years before FMC was even set up.

the alfetta 159, bringing moar V TEC JUST KICKED IN YO (425bhp 9600rpm) during the 50s

best engine (or racing engine if you like) ever made in my opinion, considering the time it was built

they came, they saw, they lolled

425 BHP from a 1.5 litre straight 8 dating from the 1930s was very good, but the V16 1.5 litre BRM eventually made 585 BHP - albeit not without problems. If the F1 regs had not been changed, the BRM could have been a winner.

...together with probably the most spine-tingling engine sound ever!

Karl Abarth:   took a 500cc Fiat Pushrod and after working on it for some time, had turned it into a 1000cc twin overhead-cam hemi that revved to over 9000.   (Although I don’t know for how long…)  Hairy.
