Do Porsche realise that the name chosen for the new small(er) suv sounds vaguely Scottish? Porsche McCann - has a good ring to it. Perhaps there will be an Irn Bru themed special addition in sugary Orange.

I know its an old theme, but, I don't get SUV's at all. Generally in my home their called Porshe/Audi/BMW/Lexus/Ford/Volkswagen/Mercedes Stupids. I don't feel quite the same about Range Rovers for some reason - they are almost a separate breed. Also, I always liked the idea of the Overfinch Landrovers when I was a lad. I remember reading about a 109" pick up with a Chevrolet V8 that did 0-60 in under 7 seconds. That sounded like fun. Why is it that the Overfinch is appealling and todays' SUV generation make me angry?

Dunno, I don't find the Overfinch models very appealing at all.  And I seem to remember them going bust in the last year or two, so maybe not too many other people liked them that much either.

There was an Overfinch classic Range Rover parked near my house a few months ago. It looked very cool, but in a down at heel depressed sort of way, one of those cars that you knew by just looking at it that it would be a heap of trouble.

I agree with your sentiment - I'd smile and create a gap for an old Overfinch Landie with a Detroit Lump in it, but whenever I come across any other SUV, the gap is closed just as quick as I can.  Childish, I know, but there it is.

I think the response develops from the general nature of the people who drive them and manner in which they are driven - it's the perfect car for the blinged up "me" genration, for whom I'm afraid I have absolutely no affection or time.

(Oh, by the way- I saw a White Land Rover Evoque in it's natuaral environment the other night:  in the disabled space at Tescos with, quel surpise, no disabled badge... it made me smile)

You're thinking of Lepr-O'Cann.

Each to their own but I think the current Overfinch breed are the worst of the lot. There is something slightly appealing about a 20 year-old Overfinch with a 5.7 Chevy fitted but it's still one of those vehicles you're glad someone else owns.

I live 5 minutes from Overfinch Leeds so I get to see these ridiculous looking, ridiculously priced creations quite often.

I thought that too until I discovered it's pronounced, Ma-shan. Reminds Porche is pronounced in Europe, Por-shey. Must sound affected to some, but there it is.

I think you're right, Peter, Irish Gaelic, pronounced Gay-lick, as opposed to Scottish Gaelic, pronounced, Ga-lik.

Isn't life and language complicated?Smile

I think you are confusing the product with some of the people who buy it.  I absolutely need my Jeep GC.  It does multiple duties as:

i) the dog's car (estate bodywork)

ii) a tow car (I have several acres and from time to time I need to tow in a utility trailer full of wood chips, compost etc.  It's rated to tow 6500lbs but is much smaller and more manoeuverable than the big pickup that tows the horses (yet it managed to tow the horse trailer home, albeit rather nose-up, when the pickup broke down at a show)

iii) the snow car -obviously it has 4WD and we sometimes get a fall of 10 to 24 inches, for which you also need the ground clearance

iv) the mountain car.  We don't offroad for the sake of it but we do hike and camp in the Sierra Nevada mountains and some of the trailheads definitely need something like the Jeep to obtain access without scraping your sump off

All I ask is that you think before you sneer, we're not all wannabees fallen victim to ad execs.

ah but you drive a jeep not a fashion statement suv as the op listed, jeeps like landrovers are proper off roaders and seem to be less likely to be bought as fashion accessories, land cruisers shoguns and path finders are also in the same bracket, well in my opinion anyway, however some suv's are family cars like xc90 and also avoid fashion conotations. Personally I dont mind the fashion suv's
