http://www.autoweek.nl/autonieuws/19847/500x-onverwachte-gast-bij-fiat-evenement < Look at this. It supposedly shows Fiat's new 500X SUV.
I can take the 500L, but I personally think this 500X is an absolutely hideous expansion of the 500 lineup. Perhaps the drab colour has something to do with it, but 500 shape apart, this looks very peculiar indeed. I worry for Fiat - I think they should be focusing on bringing us an entirely new Punto, rather than keep updating it with facelifts and giving us more 500 variants. The 500 is a cracking little car, but they should be embracing its retro charm and offer us a retro, jeepster-style mini 4x4 (or 4x2, whichever Fiat are aiming for) - take the circular headlights away and this could have come from any manufacturer.
Thoughts? I know it's only a spy shot of what looks like a model, but still, it's the clearest indication yet of what the X will look like.

To me this looks like an updated version of the 4wd joint venture with Suzuki. I assume it is not? Matsoc, if you are tuned in, am I likely to see any of these in northern Italy in the next couple of weeks?

Yep, agree - a desperately dull me-too machine, with yet another set of poached-egg headlights.
The 500 is a terrific little car, but Fiat seems determined to ignore those taut, simple lines, and go for forgettable blobbiness with other so-called '500' models.

Hi Mario,
correct, it is going to substitute the the Suzuki-made Sedici but it will share the new platform with the 500L, funnily called "small US wide".
The 500L has been presented here in Turin just yesterday at OGR (Officine Grandi Riparazioni) an ex industrial complex now used for recreational events. In the latest months I saw a lot of 500L around almost undisguised driven by Fiat test drivers but the dealers still haven't the car so it is unlikely that you see many around today. The Italian market is already behind the levels of 1992 and might close to 1979 sales number this year so it isn't exactly a good periodo for a new car but I think the 500L could perform well, it has decent looks and it is obviously more practical than a 500 for a family...
