you're only going to be pelting through bends 5%,
That is why the best thing is to rent a car which you like only for the mechanic, bash it for a day and leave.
Only, if you win a lottery ticket you can have several of them in the garage and forget about them.

I've never been round it but it looks tricky.
It's a great track, really good fun. All the corners are really interesting with lost of variety and the changes in height add another dimension. And the nature of the bends is that you really have to search out and refine the lines over a number of laps. As a result it's a track where you really can be driving better by the end of the day if you work at it. The Goose Neck is really scary too when you giving it maximum beans. You can't see what's coming up on the way in, you just have to keep your foot in and trust what's coming, and then the left hander at the bottom feels like it's going to roll your car. Excellent place to do a track day, especially in something small and darty like a Caterham.
You know, I do believe that is a 'pec'...

The interview would probably have been 1988 when he won the RAC.

You best start buying some tickets so I can go mental in an Aventador round Cadwell.
If I'm bringing an Aventador then it's going to have to be somewhere bigger than Cadwell. Done a couple of track days there in Caterhams and I'm not sure an Aventador would fit on that track! And I think the left hander at the bottom of the Goose Neck would probably rip the nose off the Lambo.
Yeah you're probably right. Maybe Silverstone then...
My Dad did a bike there once. trackday As you probably know there's a slow left hand bend before the 'Mountain' and I was watching from the stand by the Mountain. I saw a bike lose the front end on the brakes and crashed, with rider sliding for a fair while on his ar*e.
The bloke instantly stood up and started jumping and waving like a looney at the stand. He looked like a Power Ranger doing star jumps. I thought my Dad had only just passed me so couldn't have been him. Then I looked harder and realised it was him! Disaster...bodywork hanging off, mud all over it etc. Luckily he was fine and he said he was waving to let me know he was ok. We borrowed some black tape and managed to bodge all the bodywork back on and they even let him back out for another run before we rode back to mine they he rode back to Surrey.

I guess 1987/89 maybe. On that Youtube clip he looked so old. Strange to see what time does to people
He is almost 60, I'd like to be able to pedal a car like that when I'm approaching pensionable age! The interview would probably have been 1988 when he won the RAC.

Maybe in some other, lower segment I would agree with you on this.
But in these kind of cars, along with the tech wich is very important, the esthetic is also crucial.I would never trash huge amount of money just for the mechanics, and have to look an ugly car every they.
Yeah, I know, it's weird. And, as an artist it's even more weird. Not only is aesthetic important to me but, as it's my job, I understand the mechanics of it in a way that most won't - when I look at a car I can see the designer's hand at work (or not working as the case often is). And a really good looking car, 458, Aventador really excites me. Yet I can live with just about anything if it's brilliant in the bends. The front of the F430 is horribly wrong, clumsy, yet I loved every second of driving it. When I pick up a car mag I'll scan a story for the bit where they tell you how it goes around bends. And even if I think the car looks fantastic and I'm lusting, if it turns out to be no good in the bends I immediately lose interest, stop reading and move on. And the daft thing about all that is, you're only going to be pelting through bends 5%, maybe less, of the time. The rest of the time the car is just to be enjoyed and savoured. So maybe I've got a screwed up set of priorities...

It's going to be a great day!
Yeah yeah yeah....but when's it happening! You best start buying some tickets so I can go mental in an Aventador round Cadwell. With all the safety systems set to 'pathetically slow novice mode'.

Too many years in karting and too many "dirty" racers and alleged "racing incidents" toughened me up.
Would it be a strange role reversal, then, where the rest of us were as polite as vicars and Teg, the forum's most polite poster, turned out to be a complete bastard! It's going to be a great day!

I always liked Markku Alen and his couldn't give a sh1t attitude. He was about the only driver who could be at 100% at the first corner on the first day of a rally, truly skillful
