As the title states ive just bought a 1983 porsche 924 and i wanted to share with all what a fantastic little thing it is to drive, it may not be particularly quick but the steering, throttle action, brakes and suspension are all absolutely fantastic, £1900 for a 2+2 rear drive coupe that is this much fun is a steal, its even ridiculously cheap to insure as a classic, only down side so far is its not quite a 2+2 for me as ive got to have rear seat belts fitted, so the kids cant come along yet, but all the anchorage points are there and ready for belts to go in. Its how the car drives that is most amazing and i was suprised to find the wheel size so small, not far off the space saver in my dads fusion, leaves me wondering why wheels are so big on modern cars as i wouldnt say it looks under wheeled, any way just posting to say how pleased i am with it.

Sounds great, always liked the 924 even if it was never as good as other Porsche's. Hope you enjoy it. Any pics?

Hope you enjoy it. I remember swapping with a guy at work who needed a 4 seater for the weekend. All my pals were impressed and it felt great on a run though the lack of power steering made it a pain to park and the engine was not that engaging.
I quite fancy an early 944myself.

Nice car. They look so delicate now, it just shows how styling has changed. Enjoy!

Yeah nice car Si. Agree with Artill, I never used to like them much but they really appeal now. Always wanted a 968, which reminds me, where are you Teg?!

These are good cars. What was the 3.0 litre four called? The 968? I always had a soft spot for them because of the unusual engine configuration.
Personally, I'd love a 911 of about 1970 vintage, with the 2.4 (fast enough for me) and those lovely Fuchs alloys.
Enjoy your 924!

Thanks for all the positives, it really is very good for its age, though obviously not perfect, I too have always wanted a 911, unfortunately even in classic form they're right out of my price range, 944's can be had reasonably cheaply as too can the 924s with the 944's 2.5 4pot engine, however performance wasn't an issue for me I just fancied a classic sports car and this fit the bill really well. Agree it does look delicate, one of its charms according to many enthusiasts who prefer its styling to the more aggressive 944. but compared with a modern compararable car like the toyota gt86 (ie 2+2 front engine rear drive coupe) its tiny with really small wheels that dont look out of place, a great little car. thanks

Congrats - my brother got himself one a few years back - a bit of a bucket but its a pure drive compared to todays cars. I had to drive it back from Leamington Spa for him one weekend and I was expecting to hate it - no power steering etc etc, but I have to say (but never admitted to him) that it was a really nice drive. At least you feel as if you are engaged with it. My current car could be a fridge of all the engagement it has - actually scrap that the fridge is more interesting.
When the 924 he had, had to go he went straight out and got himself another one and I dare say if he had the cash right now he would not hesitate on picking another one up in a heartbeat! Lots of people say its not a real porsche, but if they say that ignore them and enjoy driving it every day!

Thanks fatboy and couldn't agree more, it really is a fantastic drive though i'm also sure most cars of its era would feel better to drive than many moderns as modern cars keep getting better and better at insulating you from everything that engages you in driving, shame really as we seem to want our cars to be more and more refined and the compromise seems to be involvement
