Not sure what your budget is but mine could be available!
Probably over my budget (£10k)... but how much are you selling it for?

Well... here's my honest ad! It's a 51 plate Passat V5 (170bhp) with 122k on the clock and with full service history in blue. Due a service now but has about 6 months MOT and 4 months tax. Interior is in great nick (leather/alcantra) bar the rearview mirror (it's an auto-dim one where the stuff inside has leaked). The exterior is what I'd call poor; the lacquer on the bonnet has a 6 inch peel and another part which is also getting worse- it'll need a respray eventually if the new owner cares at all! There are a few subtle scrapes, esp the front bumper after I hit a muntjac last year. It did lose though!
Looking at the valuations ie. CAP guide etc, I reckon a grand is reasonable privately and I would put in on for £1200. For you Fidji, I'd take £999
Oh, I live near Rutland Water which is about an hour and a half from Hemel Hempstead.

Despite the blue colour most come in, they are quietly understated compared to the German marques (even their "peoples car" parent).
Skoda suspension setup seems to also be more comfortable than the other marques in the group, and on the Fabia VRS I drove, doesn't compromise in handling - it reminds me of the way Peugeots used to glide over bumps without being wallowy, and let you chuck them into bends when you fancied.
I also prefer the shape. I find the shape of the Golf boring to look at and much prefer a fastback/saloon shape.
My sister has a 118d M-Sport, and three children of varying age and size, and she loves it. Had it for four and a half years, racked up over 100,000 miles in that time, it is still nice to drive, and it has never put a foot wrong.
I can only imagine the 120d is better.
For me the Golf, for many years has been a bit "meh", including the GTi, which is a shame. But that is what it comes down to, personal preference.
If I knew what I was getting into, I wouldn't have done it...and I would have been wrong.
Actually - privately I'd buy neither. I'd have a Skoda Octavia VRS with the same engine as the Golf... Bigger boot, just as fun.
I've spent plenty of time driving both, and the Golf GTI is hands-down much more fun to drive. The Octavia is fast, and certainly more practical, but doesn't drive anywhere near as well as the GTI.
When the mark five Golf GTI came out, I wondered what all the hacks were raving about. It didn't seem like anything special. But then I drove one and loved it. The engine is an absolute peach - no lag and picks up from very low revs. It sounds quite juicy too. It's great to drive too, unlike normal Golfs. I prefer it to the mark six, which doesn't feel as willing nor as torquey, despite what the figures may suggest. A cracking car.
The 120d is sure to be a great car too. Not as practical, but more economical and just as fun to drive.

123d is indeed quick - Autocar figures quoted for it are virtually the same as for the Mk V GTi.
When I bought mine in January 2008 I was doing quite alot of business miles, but that is no longer the case so I am tempted to return to petrol power (ideally a straight six BMW).
Not sure what your budget is but mine could be available! It is a 123d SE but has the Dynamic pack so M-sport suspension and half-leather sport seats but 17 inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate, and so on. Great car and no problems with it, but after 55,000 miles I just fancy a change.
you're most welcome! just a quick search on autotrader throws up loads of options. Pistonheads might be even better as there are usually more private sellers there...

You're right and it's cheaper to buy. But for me, it's not that nice to look at.
i agree. The octavia is probably the most boring car around! so what if it has the same engine as the golf, the fact is, it isn't a golf! I don't know if it's just me but i find cars like the octavia VRS and the old Zafira VXR as the most uncool cars ever. They're just trying to be something that they're not.
I have a 120d Coupe on a '10 plate with the improved engine. It's terrific and I love it. But... I run it because it's a company car and therefore waaay cheaper than petrol in terms of tax. But if I'd been buying privately I'd have gone Golf Gti. The 120d has the best diesel engine I've ever driven and it's really impressive, but it's not as exciting as a petrol unit. Also the Golf edges it on interior quality and practicality IMO.

BMW. Yeah, the GTi is fun but the BMW is fun too and it's difficult to argue with the lower running costs.
