Ford Puma with a bad spray job

Could have sworn I posted this thread in 'Any Other Business' but I'll have another shot again anyway.

Basically, I'm looking at a Ford Puma at the moment which someone has taken a rattle can to on the driver's side quarter panel.  It sticks out like a sore thumb and is the one thing that is really putting me off the car.  What I'm wondering is would any cutting compound or detailing product remove the layer of paint that has been sprayed on and restore to the original finish?

Thanks

Front or rear quarter panel? If the rear, make sure it's just cosmetic damage - Puma's were prone to rear arches rotting, and the spraywork may be just a cheap repair.

Hi,

Yes, I've actually already looked at one with rusty rear arches.  This one seemed rust free however and the spray job just looked like some hamfisted attempt to repair a few scratches behind the driver's door.

The colour is black (not sure whther it is metallic or not) and it just looks like a big dull paint area on the side of the car.  If there was something I knew I could do for sure, such as use a machine polisher to remove it, then I would consider the car seriously.

It might have something to do with the wheelarches which are prone to rusting on the Puma. Some are completely fine, but a lot of examples suffer.

I'm very much of the luxo-barge large sports saloon ilk but I do love some of Ford's smaller cars i.e. the Puma , Mk1 Ka & Mk1 Focus. Perhaps as a second car... in red.

Iv just bought a silver ford puma, which has had its rear arches treated.... not a brilliantly done job but its not too bad. But if you look closley and at different angles, you can see slight shading in the paint work, could be some overspray? but not sure...

Someone left my brother a message on his car with a spray can and a local Auto Glynn Valet polished it all off, cost about £250 also removed all the light scratches and made it look like new.

Not sure what he used but taking it to someone might be an option.

I assumed it was grafitti, if its a poor attempt to repaint the car the original color there is probably something worse than the spray job hiding under there, will prob need the panel re-painting.

Here's to the crazy ones......

With the internet making things more accessible, even the selection of the quality car paint can now be done online. There are some very friendly vendor websites which help one look at the array of products and make an informed decision. autobody san diego
