Hi to all.
I am not too clued up when it comes to cars so I wanted to come here to get some recommendations on which cars i should look at to buy for my next model. I currently have an standard Astra 1.6 Club (56 plate).
I want something which is a bit quicker and probably bigger engine, something comfortable and reliable. I have no children or dogs etc so doesn't have to be a large car, probably a medium sized hatchback....I drive approx 200-250 miles a week.
Maximum budget would be £8k.
Can anyone recommend what I should consider looking at?? Thanks in advance.

Would you be ok with a Diesel? If you want comfort and reliability, how about a Lexus IS200? It maybe a little bigger than you wanted though. Pretty much any Japanese hatchback will give you reliability.
Other suggestions: Nissan Qashqai, VW Golf tdi, Saab 9-3 (should be very cheap at the moment, but parts may be an issue)
So much choice though, so many cars you can get for £8k.

I'd second the Qashqai, although an Insignia or current generation Mazda6 would be well worth a look too if you don't want to go down the crossover route.

Alg, welcome.
Could you tell us more. Do you like the Astra? Do you want more performance, more economy, more comfort, a better drive?
If none of these things matter a Toyota Auris would probably be your best bet, it will never go wrong (probably), but if you get some pleaseure from driving your probably want something else.
So give us a few clues to narrow down the alternatives please

If you could stretch your budget a bit, this sounds as if it could be ideal for you if a saloon will do (2009 Mazda 3 2.0 Sport)
