Good afternoon all
Thanks to the very kind people at Toyota and WhatCar? I've just spent an incredible day in France testdrivingthe Toyota GT86
The car is phenomenal...looks breathtaking in the flesh, extremely comfortable seats (even for my 6'7" frame) and e most fun I can ever remember having on road or track. They gave us the cars for the whole day and let us go and get lost on the B roads near Calais
Even have read all the reviews by Sutcliffe etc. I wasn't expecting to be blown away quite as much as I was. It definitely doesn't need more power - unless your planning on racing an AMG or M5 on an autobahn I rarely found the engine lacking - especially if you kept it high In the rev range
Ride is fairly firm (cant imagine the firmer BRZ's suspension on bigger wheels working) but you'd expect that in this kind of car. Looked amazing in burnt orange as well
The only reason I'm not signing up for an order today is I'm a little worried about residuals...I was thinking of a Porsche Cayman second hand for around 20k which would hold it's value far better and have more "prestige" but now seriously reconsidering. 5yr warrantee does make me think it would be a smashing second hand buy in 2-3years...
Let me know if you have any questions about it

Excellent first post. Welcome.
You know, I do believe that is a 'pec'...

Lucky Git. (In the nicest possible way!)
Its good to hear such a positive view from someone. If you were as impressed as you sound i wouldnt worry about the residuals. Firstly, its quite likely the car will develope a following to keep residuals looking decent, It wont have expensive running costs and the 5 year warrenty isnt something a second hans porsche can offer either.
Its also very encouraging to hear a tall guy can fit in it, not some thing road tests often mention.

I'm very envious. It's nice to see a new car that prioritises the needs of a keen driver over the CO2 emissions regulations set by the EU. An epic car. I know this and I haven't even driven one. In fact, I haven't even seen one in the flesh yet!

Hi
I too was at the GT86 What Car readers test team event yesterday. Spent the day driving an Orange Gt86. The GT86 is a great car and a pleasant change from the usual image concious offerings from Audi and BMW.
Check out GT86 owners club forum for more info on the GT86.

I think its about time there was an Autocar reader test team event, if we get to go to France and drive a great car like this.

If Autocar do by some late-night-after-a-heavy-session-down-the-pub chance ever consider a Reader Test team, can I volunteer to take part in the 10-year-old-sub-£2000-let's-find-out-if-it's-real-quality-or-just-percieved-quality test team?

Hi, do you believe a more powerful version is on its way then?

Eh, yes, have seen images of more athletic cars with serious but not over the top body kits, plus i think Subaru are going to turn up the wick, maybe 250-300bhp.

They probably will bring a more powerful one out which will no doubt be nudging £30k. I drove the current one on Saturday and that's not slow, seriously grin inducing in the corners. I've done a thread on the review page.
