It's the sheer breadth of the flat-12's power band that's so startling. In fourth, for instance, all 20mph increments between 20 and 100mph are despatched in around five seconds and this is a gear that's good for 140mph. In fifth, the Ferrari sprints between 50-70 and 60-80mph in 7.4secs - and at 80mph, the Testarossa still has 100mph in hand.
