I have a friend who has been intimate with big players in F1 for decades. He says that for some reason he has the knack of getting on with people that everyone else finds "very difficult". He cited Enzo and Bernie.
I need to sit down with him and record his memories, they would povide material for a great book. A lot of behind the scenes stuff, parties, roadies, practical jokes etc. Sort of like David Niven's book The Moon's a Balloon, which was Hollywood instead of F1.
Is Bernie trying to sabotage the British GP at Silverstone. So far his
plan has done just that. The weather has gone in Bernies favour. No
parking on Saturday means the organizers will have to refund millions
that could be spent on track and facilities improvement. If Sunday is a
fiasco , another strike against them. When the contract is up for
Silverstone ,Donnington or Brands will have upgraded their facilities
to be in better shape than Silverstone. Something smells here and its
not the Italians.

Nothing to do with Bernie, but I just read your footnote - I think a Pious may just make the driver have more than a passing resemblance to what you mention............
I'm not sure what this thread is actually about, but I wondered if my thought that he has a hairdo quite reminiscent of Joanna Lumley as Purdey in The New Avengers might be relevant?
I'm in no way saying this is true but the one car journo I know fairly well - one who has been around motorsport a lot - reckons that Bernie has had people "taken care of" and/or "off'd".
Now, seems extreme, I'm not sure he's had them "off'd", but he's definitely a nasty snake.
Yet again Bernie is in the news. This time he's being sued by the company who would have made the cash had Bernie not 'allegedly' bribed a German banker to sell F1 to CVC... or something like that.
Max Mosley was forced out for a bit of slap and tickle, wrongly accused of Nazi sympathising by crooks at the NOTW. What Bernie is being accused of, and frankly looks guilty of (very assumptive, sorry), is far worse than a kinky gallop with some ladies of le nuit.
How badly does Bernie need to bring the sport into disrepute before somebody steps forward and says, "You know what ol' boy, probably best if you walk". Granted it would be a bold man but surely Bernie can't be completely untouchable, can he?!
His replacement's first job would be to drop Korea for a GP in France and move the European GP from the yawnfest that is Valencia to Donnington or Brands.

Will make a great book when he has gone.

Is Bernie bent? As a nine-pound note (at a risk of him suing me to death).
you kidding? He's just got married again!

To paraphrase Mrs Merton: "So Fabiana, what first attracted you to the billionaire Bernie Ecclestone?"
