Not sure if this has been done before so forgive me if it has.My motoring life started when my parents bought me a bright orange K-reg VW Beetle for my eighteenth birthday in 1990.Remember the day my dad and I drove up to Preston to pick it up;we passed two other Beetles and the owners waved to us as we passed them. The car was bought for me in the hope it would spur me on to start taking driving lessons again before hopefully passing my test.I did pass my test but it was 10 years later by which time the Beetle had gone to the crusher.Wish i'd kept it now though. The Beetle started my love affair with VWs as i've had 3 Polos,a mark one Golf,3 mark II Golfs and a Vento, too. So,what was your first car?

My first drive was in an Austin Allegro. i was 16 and the family had gone to visit my grandparents. my father and i went out ( i think any excuse to escape would have done for him) and he took me to a deserted airfield near Southampton, but only when we got there did he tell me his plan so i had a breif drive in his car.
Now, everyone tells you how bad Allegros were, but i wish i remember the drive more to be able to say.
I had my first proper lesson on my 17th birthday in a Toyota Corolla, although by my second lesson the instrucor had changed his car to a Rover 213. My Mother had a Metro city at the time so i drove that a lot too. Once passed i carried on driving mainly my mothers car, and occasionally my dads which was an MG Metro.
When i was 19 i bought a 1983 MG Metro of my own. I only kept it 3 months as i lost my job, although i actually made a profit when i sold it on (it hasnt happened since). It was replaced with a much cheaper car, a 1978 Triumph Dolomite Sprint.
I would like to drive another MG Metro now as i remember it very fondly, but its probably better i dont get to drive another so i dont ruin the illusion.

My first car was brand spanking new. It was a Daihatsu Domino, though. It was a cracking little car, and I wish I still had it. 25 years on and it's still on the road.

I learnt to drive in many different cars (because I live on a farm), 95 Astra, 97 Ford Ranger, 97 Discovery, 02 Clio, 03 Kangoo, 03 X-Trail (main car I learnt in), 05 Vectra, 07 Ford Ranger, 08 Hilux. I had driven a variety of cars before sitting my test in a 2011 Audi A1.
And my first car that I bought myself a few months ago is a tired old 96 Citroen Saxo 1.1.

I learned to drive in a 1985 Honda Accord, and the first car I bought was a Datsun 260Z (2-seater, not the uglified 2+2). Loved my Z car, but it was hell in hot weather - which happened a lot in Australia. No air-con, black vinyl seats and interior, and regular vapour lock if you switched it off and then tried to re-start it anytime within half an hour...

A White Fiat Uno 60s (with a tiny twin chock Weber and electronic ignition) which was a mixture of gutless, but incrediably willing and brimfull of charachter. I did nearly 90,000miles in it and conterary to many peoples experiences with old Fiats, it never really let me down. Great to work on too - everything was simple and accessable and held on with 4 screws - easy! Everytime I go through the cupboard in the garage and find my old timing gun, I remember the hours of mild tweaking and repeated test drives to get it just right with no tappets or pinking... ahhh, memories...

Yes, I was! Horrendous bleedin traffic as well! There was one guy in a big Merc that I recall - reckon he was maybe plastered - but I saw him trying to pass me and he ended up getting it sideways going into a tunnel then all of a sudden he just wasn't there... loony - must have turned off someplace... anyway, what makes you ask!?
