I have often seen driving instructors giving lessons in cars like mini coopers, mini ones and Alfa mitos. I assume they hope the cars will attract custom over the more standard cars out there, but I did wonder how the value of the car would be affected and how fearful the instructors would be whilst teaching parallel parking etc with kerbed alloys.

Today in Cambs I saw a driving instructor giving a lesson in a 61 plate cooper S. Seemed a bit OTT, especially cos I doubt many learners will be able to get something as powerful when they pass.

I learnt in a 105 1.5 diesel I believe. The diesel engine was very easy to learn with, hill starts etc.

Positively youthful I should think when I say my driving instructor had a 1974 (2 years old at the time) MkI Escort!

Best driving school cars I've seen are a Subaru Impreza WRX and a Golf R32.

Wonder how much they charge an hour.

Good, my first car was a MkII Cortina that cost £230 and was a complete shed - glad to see the back of it!

BTW, rpf72 I passed first time too after 10 lessons in 8 weeks (the day after I passed my motorbike test).

My mum's Mk 1 Fiat Panda in '85.

Like everyone else here I passed first time. My father taught me so I didn't bother with any formal lessons.
