Value for money

I'm always the first to grumble about main dealer prices, but had a very positive experience this week.  911 Turbo S required its first service after 2 years, and inclusive of brake fluid change and VAT, it cost me £480.  Yes, its a lot of cash to fork out in one go, but £240 a year on servicing a 525bhp car seems extremely fair to me.  It works out masses cheaper than the Audis and BMWs on the company fleet.

Its nice to feel you've got value for money from a car dealer for once.  Mind you, with a massive 2800 miles on the clock, its better working it out by the year than by the mile!

Yes agree thats good value , and  it's a 911 proper car! you could easily pay that to have a run of the mill car serviced  525 bhp GREAT!!!!!

Yes, never had a turbo but the 911's i have run were very reasonable to run, at least until someone damaged them.

10 years ago my Cerbera cost a minimum of £600 for an annual service and often more, just for basic servicing. It cost far less than a 911 or simelar performance to buy, but serving was a different matter. These days the Monaro goes to a local mechanic, its usually about £100 for its annual visit.

My Z4M has averaged a little over £250 per year for servicing, plus I get free MOTs for life (of my ownership of that car) too, and I don't even have to go to the dealership to get it done.

If I knew what I was getting into, I wouldn't have done it...and I would have been wrong.

I have just started doing the same for cars that have gone out of factory warranty.  Stratstone were charging over 1200 a year to service a DB9 (that does about 800 miles a year), and its just been done locally by a firm I trust for £150.

Was pleased to see even Ferrari are getting a bit more realistic - a new purchase of a 458 comes with 4 years servicing included.  Apparently, this is nostly down to the DCT, which should last a lifetime in the car, as opposed to the older "F1" robotised manual that destroyed clutches at a fearful rate.

Ouch!  Not looking forward to replacing the composite discs on the 911, though I'll most probably have swapped it before it needs new tyres / discs!
