... They win £148.6 million and she's buying and Audi Q7 (she's already spec'd it) and he's going to buy a 'chunky' car. Oh, and he's going to keep running his shop. Makes you wonder why some people bother or if, maybe, God has a twisted sense of humour.

Its why I don't agree with these sums of money being paid out. Most of the winners have no comprehension of what can be done with that amount of money.
I'd sooner 148 people get one million.

If it is something you enjoy and is not a burden, in any way, then why not, even after coming into such great fortune. I'm talking about keeping the shop going, not the Q7; I could never understand that!
Well done to them, but go have a great holiday first, then decide what madness you want to get yourself into.

If 148 people all had the same numbers, they would.
If I knew what I was getting into, I wouldn't have done it...and I would have been wrong.

To clarify I'd sooner the game was tweaked to give a higher probability that multiple winners could take the top prize.
In fairness to these folks it would be a total mind blow to get your numbers up. I agree clear off on hols for a few weeks and digest it all. I think the lottery also do a lot to support people who win as it can be too much.

They seem like a nice couple and to be fair their intention is to sort a lot of people out so, in effect, it will be like the jackpot has been shared amongst a number of people. As a car fanatic, though, it always frustrates when you see someone in this position who's bar is set at something like a Q7. It does make you feel like grabbing them by the lapels and shouting "Wake up, the world is your oyster!".
You know, I do believe that is a 'pec'...

Agreed.
That kind of cash puts you in the territory where you can look at some very exclusive cars. I'd fit a tow bar to my McLaren F1 LM just so I could take the 250GTO to the track!

The problem with tweaking the game so that larger wins are spread among more winners, apart from how, is that really only makes sense on a very large sum. 148 people 'winning' £1million each (or whatever combination), wouldn't translate so well with a, say, £10million jackpot, and, by extension wouldn't have many takers. The huge jackpots are part of the attraction that get people spending the £2.00.
You didn't say this, Adam, but the "It's too much for one person" line kind of does my head in, because it pre-supposes that this couple will just sit on a pile and do nothing. In all likelihood no-one among their extended families need ever think about debts, paying the mortgage, or job security again, or even are just set up for life. They may have local projects or interests that would greatly benefit, not to mention other more or less well known charities. I know I would, but if you spread it out, none of that will happen, or it probably would be very much diminished.
Anyway, if your numbers come up, remember I am you bestest mate, ever.
You're right about the National Lottery looking after the jackpot winners. Apparently going public is part of that. It seems mad to me, but the view is that sitting on it can make you go slightly bonkers, but more than that the news will creep out eventually, if only locally, and can lead to bitterness and down right nastyness.

Well, give them some credit, at least.... they didn't buy an Overfinch...!

No, no. You're still thinking too small. You have a fleet of trucks with all the track hardware that you'll ever need. The trucks will be driven to the track. You will arrive by helicopter.

Can't disagree with that. The big pots draw in the punters and the pot gets bigger and so it goes on. I don't know the solution, perhaps one isn't needed, but personally I still think that all that money going to one ticket is just too much. My ideal game would limit the pot to one million and have lower odds wich give more people a chance of winning. But then maybe no one would play!
