Well, I have commited to a wedding now. Put the £500 deposit down for the venue and now need another £3,500 for the balance for the venue. Also will need about £2,000 for wedding dress and suits, then there's things like cakes, catering, e.t.c...
Basically, I need to make about £10k before next August. I work alot of hours, and only have about £300 a month to spend after every direct debit has gone out, and that £300 just covers petrol and food. Overtime is an option, and I have already started to do some, but I know that it'll kill me. I charge £150 for DJ bookings, but these aren't as regular as I'd like. I have a huge collection of old model cars that I may look into selling.
Any other suggestions on how to make money, fast? (Legally!)
And also, what car should I hire? was thinking of a silver Cloud. A friend had an Austin Mini Limo which was quite cool. Would the ZS cut it? Or maybe by next August i'll be driving a used Hyundai lantra to save money - would that cut it?
And thankyou to new member Queen Vicky for the pink font.

You could lease out your driveway, garage and garden to a private company. Popular idea in Government circles.
Actually, I know of a few people who did that. I live very close to the T in the Park site and I know of people who let people rent their driveways during the festival and they earned a decent amount of money!
If you had something like that in your area, it may be worth doing.

The only forum member you would actually buy a car on his recommendation.

Now if I was a cross-dressing, gymnastic, breakdancing, singing whilst riding a unicycle type of talented person, then maybe..
Where do I sign up for the show?
You need to write into a guy called satan. All you will need is to give up your soul.
Can you tell I hate Cowel, BGT, Xfactor e.t.c?

I don't know if £10k is too much in absolute, but if it means saving for over an year knowing you are saving for it...yes it could be
£10k is over-estimating probably, though if I can achieve this goal and we can do the wedding cheaper than we thought then we can have a really good honeymoon too.
Since I started this thread, I have worked alot of overtime and have sold 100 items on ebay. So far, I have £600 in the wedding fund. Not a bad start. But as ever, something always goes wrong.. my exhaust has gone on my ZS. So do I dip into wedding fund or drive around with no exhaust?

Been thinking about this for you
thankyou
sod 90% of that and spend it on a decent bunnyfoon, something for the TWO of you and that you probably both need. I am not sure if she can fly - if she can even better. Drop the wedding, Go to Oxfam and search out a wedding dress and a monkey suit which cud save a lot of money for you and do a registry office job and then hot foot to airport or if staying UK put up a request in ebay or something for a fun car for a day!
hope it helps - and good luck to both of you
She can fly until she has brain surgery, which we hope will be after the wedding but depends on her sight and if it gets worse. Monkey suits would be ideal for my stag doo, but on a wedding day? Us blokes would like it, but it ruins the womens dream of a perfect wedding.
Thanks for your help though, but I don't think my fiancee would like this idea, and besides, the venue is already booked!

Seriously dude, £10k for 1 day?
I know, it does seem very daft!
I know you want the best for her, but you could have a special year or two with 10k disposable income, why blow it all in one day?
It's what most women dream of, and although 10k could be spent on alot of nice things, the wedding day is (hopefully) a one off major event in our lives and having a nice suit, having your bride look amazing, having proffesionally took photographs to remember it by, ....well, I just think it would be nice
We spent £3500 on our wedding 7 years ago, and we didn't skimp on the important things, we have platinum rings £1000 worth that we wear every day, but the wear once dress was under £100 (Mango Sale), the suits were hired for £50, the venue was top notch (Gisborough Hall) but we hired it on a Sunday for half price and limited it to 50 guests. The cake was 3 M&S layers for £80 including pillars and fresh flowers for decoration, local florist cost £100, local photographer was £200 for photos only, and we made our own albums. My nearly new Alfa Romeo was a top wedding car and we honeymooned in Wales, we were debt free afterwards and still are today if you discount the mortgage, thats a good feeling especially in these times!
All very good, and alot of the things apart from the venue we could get cheap. Found a friend of a friend who makes wedding cakes - getting that done for free! As for a cheap dress, her size and bra size means that getting a cheap one off the shelf isn't going to happen! Photography is something that we could get cheaper, suits will probably be hired anyway.
As for the honeymoon, well I love travelling and seeing the world. Wales is on our doorstep, Cuba, Goa, Brasil e.t.c aren't, and I plan on the honeymoon being the best holiday of our lives.
If my words fall on deaf ears, then thats fine, you do your own thing, but promise me one thing...
...make it the best day ever, so you can never regret blowing 10k on it!!!
I promise it will be the Rolls Royce of weddings!

I just had a great Idea PRODIGY why dont you enter Britan's got Talent !
Your a DJ right ? you could do something that would impress the judges and win! lol
To win BGT, I would have to learn something along the lines of 'Beat juggling'. search on youtube 'DMC mixing championship' or 'Beat juggling' to see this in action. Can't really explain it (tried to and ended up deleting a paragraph) it's just one of those things you need to watch to appreciate. It involves 2 or 3 record decks and fast movements!
Just doing a mix wouldn't win something that Simon Cowel has anything to do with. Now if I was a cross-dressing, gymnastic, breakdancing, singing whilst riding a unicycle type of talented person, then maybe..

Try this as a Test of true love. Registry Office and two witnesses. No friends with a suitable car? Party at home. Isn't marriage about two people making a lifetime promise to one another after all?
Well yes, marriage is about 2 people in love, but nearly every women dreams of weddings and their perfect day. It could be done like this, but if we can save the money then it will be nice to make it a special day for both of us.
