Just wondered what car magazines other forum members buy.I used to buy Motor Trend,Automobile,Car&Driver,Road&Track and Car every month,Autocar every week.Lately, with my finances the way they are,I only buy Car now.Stopped buying Autocar about 3 years ago as I didn't feel it was worth buying any more as I can read a fair chunk of it on the website.Wouldn't wipe my @rse with Top Gear or Autoexpress. What do you buy?

Autocar, Car, Evo pretty much every issue and then others intermittently when something grabs my attention.

You know, I do believe that is a 'pec'...

Autocar, and Motor when it existed - the latter always got better acceleration times, especially  with Italian cars - made you feel Autocar had a Ford bias!

Oops, some things do not change!

I recently bought more car magazines than usual as I am flying more and in the airports I always end up in the newsstands. I rarely miss an issue of Evo, Auto Motor und Sport, Sport Auto, Quattroruote while I often but not always buy Car and Driver, Road & Track, Autocar, Auto Tecnica, Ruote Classiche.

Very occasional and specific copies of Evo or Car Mechanics, but that's it. I used to buy Autocar every week (and Motor every now and then) but stopped that in the early nineties when I realised what a waste of money they are. In fact now, I tend to track down copies I want on ebay! If you're in the market for a new car, fair enough they might be relevant but as a serial third or fourth-hand buyer, they aren't really. But does anyone remember Car and Car Conversions; I had many hours fantasizing projects because of that! And surely WhatCar? has to be he most desperately depressing car magazine ever, except perhaps for Which?

I only buy three, Autocar, for a week by week,to keep up to speed with car news,AutoExpress, because it does cover the more mundain stuff within car ownership, and i subscribe to TopGear monthly, for a more focused car article, and also, mags cost a lot!

i have a subscription to Autocar and to Practical Classics. I was given a 12 month subscription to EVO, but i dont enjoy it enough to continue it. Many years ago i used to subscribe to Car, but gave up when every issue had a Porsche and an Impezza in it. The Subarus dont appear now, but i still dont buy it often. Auto Express is badly writen. And yes What car is depressing. Tests of boring cars, at the end of which you are told the best car is the one that depreciates less, for get driver enjoyment, performance etc, its all about costs and nothing to do with driving.

Autocar isnt perfect, but i look forward to evey copy dropping onto my doormat. The mix of content, the news, the opinions of Steve Cropley, Steve Sutcliffe and James Rupert.

Except for Autocar all the magazines you quote are USA publications yet ...

... you use the UK colloqual arse rather than USA ass. Do you live in the USA or just love muscle cars?

I find almost all UK automotive weekly magazines punt for manufacturers with platitudes and hype. One model magazines are the worst. They tone down scathing criticism and avoid controversy. Serious critique is hard to find. Autocar can still boast it gives us the most thorough reviews of new vehicles, but beyond that is of little substance. A writer with a pronounced sense of humour or turn of phrase is nowhere to be found. There are one or two erudite European magazines, such as the Italian Auto Design, that offer knowledge from the experienced and the talented. I buy Classic and Sports Car because it keeps cars in an historical context reminding us there isn't much around that wasn't invented a hundred years ago.

rpf72@,

What part of car news interests you?,as another fellow poster noticed you were reading mostly American car mags, my dear old Dad, God bless em, used to do the same,he didn't live in America, and i always wondered why?,as for your point blank description of AutoExpress & TopGear mag......well, you read what you like, and unbiased opinions are more appreciated.
