on the three lane stuff, no one sticks to 70mph!, in fact i was lucky enough to witness a driver getting his collar felt,he passed me doing at least 100mph, more like 120mph actually, he could afford the fine though,he was driving a Lexus 460.

Whether the motorway speed limit should be raised is another thread altogether, but I'll admit that when I used to leave for work in the early hours of the morning, the motorway would be empty and I wouldn't encounter a single car for miles. If the weather conditions were good and the road ahead was clear, I would usually sit at 100mph for a while. I'm not condoning it, but it definitely allowed me to get a few more minutes' sleep!

When on the motorway with other vehicles, I usually don't exceed about 85mph. You can't a lot of the time because even the traffic in the outer lane is stuck at about 70mph or so because some guy a few cars ahead is overtaking someone else who's going pretty much the same speed as him!

Hi fellow scribes!, just back from hols,as for speed limits, well, i agree ,they are getting excessive, and as we all know, we spend more and more time looking for speed traps than is healthy for us to,and having travelled up from Dumfries on the three lane stuff, no one sticks to 70mph!, in fact i was lucky enough to witness a driver getting his collar felt,he passed me doing at least 100mph, more like 120mph actually, he could afford the fine though,he was driving a Lexus 460.

I was on that road last night and I agree, no one seems to stick to the limit! We were going at about 75 mph and people would drive 100+ past us. I only saw one police car and that was pulled over a Transit van, and I don't think it was for speeding.

I'm normally going at the top end of the traffic flow speed curve but every now and then I'll do a week where I stick to all the limits - just as an interesting exercise. When I do stick to the limit on the motorway it seems like I'm the only one doing the national limit with everyone else going at least 20mph faster. I'm surprised the police are not hoovering drivers up by the dozen.

You know, I do believe that is a 'pec'...
