Two of our current favourite fast coupés are the Jaguar F-type R AWD and the Nissan GT-R, both of which come with 542bhp - so what better way to decide who is the coupé king than with a customary drag race? Matt Prior is your referee.

Cheap 'n' Nasty

I had the pleasure of looking at a F-type-R at close quarters last night and was surprised at how tacky it was.

The bonnet vents, lower bumper grilles and wheel-arch gills are all fake, with no holes in at all. The plastic "vents", which were off the car I looked at, were really flimsy and just clipped into place.

The contrived roar at start up, before the exhaust valves shut and it sounds like a Mondeo, was just embarrassing.

There were also some very dubious panel gaps.

Unfortunately I didn't drive it and that may have impressed more, but for showroom appeal, sadly disappointing.

Eh Roadster...

Jaguar obviously on the ropes. Unable to match performance of the competition with RWD, after going back to the drawing board and urgently facelifting with 4WD, the F-Tyoe is still outperformed by a Datsun using technology at least 10 years old. Datsun on a roll, competition shaking in their boots, well done Japan.
