Lamborghini's all-new V12 hypercar is a very different beast to the Murcielago

Our Verdict

Lamborghini Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador is big, bullish and ballistic, but it isn't perfect

I'll have mine in black, please.

Ferrari pumps the 612S/FF by 120bhp from 540bhp to 660bhp, and Lambo pumps up the Murcielago replacement by 30bhp. Sorry Lambo, should have been 750bhp at least. The styling is hardly adventurous either. I like the car but it should have been so much more.

To unlock the flip up the cover on the starter button do you have to insert and turn 2 keys simultaneously?

Love the unashamed theatrics, it's almost as if the designers had a sense of humour putting this in. Or a Friday afternoon thought "Hey Fernando, remember top gun and how they flipped up a cover on the controls to fire the rockets? How cool would it be to do that on the starter button??" More wine per favore! Hehe.

[/quote] blimey - some people are never happy! i'll happily have 690bhp and count every single one of them on a daily basis.

Note to Steve Sutcliffe: "Price as tested" should be £242,280 which is the £201,900 quoted plus 20% VAT. Not sure why price as tested is quoted ex-taxes. Irksome when motoring writers don't do the job properly that they are paid to do.

I agree. Of course, it would be ridiculous to say 690bhp is underpowered, but when you look at the Lambo's forthcoming rivals such as the Porsche 918, and indeed some other hypercars currently available, many produce over 700bhp which is necessary to maintain a sizeable performance gap over cars from the class below (i.e 458, Gallardo, MP4-12C, 911 Turbo etc) as well as being one of the raison d'etre of a hypercar. At the moment, the Aventador has less than 100bhp than the lighter, cheaper McLaren while I have no doubt the next Gallardo will have around 600bhp and be lighter than the current model, but will be a damn sight cheaper than its big brother.

I want this car so much it hurts. How much are kidneys worth these days?

Steve Sutcliffe's blog is a much better descriptive piece about how this car drives.

First time ever that I have been remotely interested in a Lamborghini. Just a shame it has a silly gear box and they didn't save the development budget and stick to the old manual (and before anyone comments, yes I know everyone that buys a supercar these days wants an auto...... Pansies!).

It's all about the twisties........

I don't look at this as a natural rival to the 918 etc. While all other supercar makers are notably shifting their new models upwards in price, 918 almost double price of carrera gt, huayra well over twice original zonda, new 458 well specced pushes 200k, this is actually quite affordable next to its traditional rivals, so it sits well below the 918, and not very far above the 458 and mp4-12c.

Bizarrely, I think it looks great value.

I'll have one of these, a second hand 8c, and the new rs 4.0 after this weeks euromillions please.

I agree it sounds just like the car lamborghini should be making, and i too think its a shame they wont even less people opt for a proper manual. Maybe there will be enough pressure over time for one to sneek out. It is of course irrelivent to me as i wont be buying one either way. And i know the Auto will be faster, and probably more eco. I dont care.

I have to say its great they have resisted any thoughts of turbos etc. A proper Lambo should have a normally aspirated engine and if this sounds half as good as the old engine it will be hard to top.
