What is it?
This is about as far as Volvo thinks it can push its latest compact executive car, the S60. A model that starts at a whisker over £23k ends up here with the T6 AWD Geartronic Premium, at almost £36k (or £37k if you go the whole hog and have this tech spec in Luxury trim). It’s safe to assume that this will not be the volume seller in the range.
For this kind of money you get the uprated version of the firm’s turbocharged straight-six petrol engine, capable of producing 300bhp and 324lb ft. This is transferred to the road via a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
What’s it like?
In theory, that means this is the ‘hot’ S60. In practice, however, it’s a swift, soothing saloon that likes a drop of unleaded (28.5mpg claimed, 24mpg in real-world driving) – and nothing more than that.
The S60’s key strengths – its fine cabin, comfortable seats and compliant ride – remain. And the six-pot lump has decent low-down torque and is happy to fade into the background at motorway speeds.
Just don’t see the ‘T6’ badge on the bootlid and assume that this car is in any way an S60 R, because the overall focus of this Volvo is still on comfort.
The S60’s steering is accurate and nicely weighted once you’re away from the straight ahead, but there’s next to no feel.
Should I buy it?
The S60 remains an impressive package, and certainly Volvo’s best car for years. But this flagship petrol version’s problem is that it doesn’t offer scintillating performance or a lot of metal for the money.
When you consider that a BMW 330d oil-burner is a grand cheaper – and that it’ll be less expensive to run – you may well conclude that this is, in fact, an S60 too far. I have.

Re: Volvo S60 T6 AWD
the VW R hold's much more street cred then a Volvo in the youth of today
I don't want to be rude here, but I don't give a sh!t what the 'youth of today' on the street thinks about my car. In fact, the less interesting they find it, the better.
Out of this, the S4, 335x, c350 4motion, insignia vxr or a nice turbo Legacy if there was any, I would pick this s60 without ever looking back.
No your not rude don't worry
But you should give a Sh!t what the youth of today think about your car and you !, when your old if your not already old and become a OAP they will be working paying taxes and your pension's !
So when you do not give a sh!t about what the youth think, think about that next time you will be sat in a hospital or collecting your pension when you old !
They the future so respect to them
Re: Volvo S60 T6 AWD

Eh?
Why should anybody of whatever age care about what the yoof of today think about them or their car? Too many people care too much about what too many others think of them and their cars.
The idiots.
when your old if your not already old and become a OAP they will be working paying taxes and your pension's !
Er...the pension that "OAPs" receive comes from their own pocket (courtesy of them paying towards it during their working life), not from the yoof of today (who will be hard-pressed to pay for their own pension).

Pension's come from the working Tax Payers money, young people will contribute to paying the next generation of Tax for this country, there Tax will be used to run this country's public services and will also contribute to peoples state pension !
Instead of saying the youth of today will be hard pressed try to be positive as we need the youth to be getting good jobs for the benefit of this country and its future do you not read any of the news !
Re: Volvo S60 T6 AWD
I'd love to see the sales figure but I suspect that you'd be one of about 6 people who'll buy this car each year.
Wonder why?
Some people just don't want to follow the herd. Which, as with buying a common "badge" is a statement in itself.
and some people do not want to lose £1000s of pounds buying a Volvo in deprecation, my dad bought a V70 estate back in 2002 the new shape ones. I was the one who told him to get it as we needed a big car for carrying heavy loads. It was perfect my dad was like "moe well done" excellent choice I was still a teenager back then as well !
He loved the V70 lots of gadgets, excellent leather seats and a great interior and load space, when he came to sell it in 16 months he lost 9 grand !!! its not about following the herd when buying a "common brand" its about using your brain !! and buying the better and right car.

Moe, you seem to be confusing general taxation with the state pension.
The state pension basically works like this: the worker pays a contribution out of his salary towards his pension. It's no different to putting aside a proportion of your earnings into a bank account that you can't touch until you are of a certain age.
Put simply, I am contributing towards my own state pension. You are not.
Anyway, we seem to have got off topic. Can we start talking about cool cars such as Volvos again?

Moe is correct here. What you are doing with your tax payments is paying for todays pensioners. In turn when you retire iyour pension will be paid for by working people at that time.
That's the reason why the growing gap in numbers between the young and old is such an issue, there's not enough young people to pay for the pensions of the eldery.
Your payments towards your pension entitle you to it, they don't pay for it.
Re: Volvo S60 T6 AWD
Wonder why?
Because
A people want to make a statement with their cars
B people have no clue/imagination beyond the obvious
C the Germans have in fact an edge above the competition and people like feeling superior. Noone told them that edge cannot be exploited in real world traffic, shame.
D people are hypocrites and moan about a grand more depreciation. Which actually is the other way around of course as the Germans cost a lot more spec for spec.
Anyhow I just realized I can't buy a Volvo any more because they've been sold off to Chinese.
Re: Volvo S60 T6 AWD

As opposed to a similarly powered and specced German on which you would have lost how much?

I just went on a website which said I will receive my state pension in 2055 at the age of 68 lol what a joke. I wonder what will happen to my private pension ?
Volvo are not cool they are classy but not cool over 60s please post your comments

Lee I thought so as well.. but when Dan replayed back to my comment and said I was wrong I was like ? one sec what is he on about.

Thank you for supporting my statement Lee.. I have a feeling Dan is not a big fan of mine from the way he like's to always correct my post's even when I am correct.
