Peugeot's new Citroen DS4-style high-rider concept is set to expand on Peugeot's new look

Peugeot’s styling renaissance, started with the much-admired SR1 sports car, is set to continue with a new high-rider concept car, believed to be codenamed H1.

Gilles Vidal, Peugeot's design boss, will unveil the new car at the Paris motor show in September.

The car will use new, post-207 styling cues to spark an era of design elegance for Peugeot’s affordable models — all of which will be more economical than current cars.

It will utilise the emerging diesel hybrid tech at PSA Peugeot-Citroën.

Vidal has already signalled an end to Peugeot’s competition-bred ‘wide-mouthed frog’ look. Future lights and grilles will be smaller, reducing the promise of high performance as a sign of the times.

More sculpted, lighter-looking shapes and better stances will help match the new emphasis on economy, low pollution and weight saving.

Peugeot is keeping details of its Paris concept secret, but the model is believed to be similar in dimensions — but completely different in look — to Citroën’s forthcoming 4.3-metre DS4, also a short, raised hatchback classed as a high-rider.

The H1 is also likely to provide clues to the all-important new frontal treatment of the forthcoming 208 supermini, which is due in showrooms in 2012.

Peugeot CEO Jean-Marc Gales has already revealed that the 208 will be both smaller and lighter than (although just as roomy as) the current 207, which is one of the biggest and heaviest cars in its class.

Diesel and low pollution don't go together. It could be low Co2 though.

Any firm making that statement could end up with hefty fines for miss-selling.

Now that's a looker! A quantum leap in the right direction!

They scanned an Aston Martin (seriously), and have tweaked a few of the details. What are Peugeot up to? What's the brand trying to be??

Looks like bothe Peugeot and Cirtoen are harking back to the cars of the 70s. This has strong elements of the 504 Cabriolet and the DS4 of the SM. That's no bad thing in my book.

Some very neat lines there. Restrained and not too fussy. Very nice.

Beachland, that maybe so, but surely you could have written something along the lines of WOW, best looking Peugeot ever, the high-rider concept is all about the design direction Peugeot are going, which on the face of it now looks promising even if it is French and will fall to bits after a week.

You guys do know that the picture is of a previous Peugeot concept (The SR1) and not the Highrider that the article talks about don't you?

Autocar just used the picture of the SR1 as the new highrider concept will evolve the SR1s styling.
