The British-built Honda CR-V has gained five stars in the latest round of Euro NCAP safety tests.
In particular the car scored well for driver safety after a frontal or side impact – scoring 93 per cent for adult occupant safety. Testers noted that the passenger cabin "remained stable" after a frontal impact test, and the CR-V also scored maximum points in the side impact test with "with good protection of all body regions."
Citroën’s new C4 Picasso also scored well, receiving five stars overall and an 86 per cent safety rating for adult occupants. Renault’s Renault Captur also scored five stars on a recent test.
Not all cars have done well, however, with Nissan’s Evalia MPV scoring just three stars, and just 68 per cent for adult occupant safety.
Testers on the car commented that on inspection, after a frontal impact test, “it was found that the floor panel had torn away from the base of the A pillar and numerous spot welds had released between the floor and sill”.
Euro NCAP has also rewarded autonomous emergency braking systems, such as Mitsubishi's Forward Collision Mitigation system and Fiat's City Brake Control.
