Ginetta is launching a new flagship two-seater: the 310bhp Ginetta G60, its first mid-engined road car for more than 20 years.

Priced at £68k and limited to just 50 cars, the G60 is a heavily reworked version of the carbonfibre-tubbed Farbio GTS, built by the company that Ginetta acquired in March.

Production has been switched from Bath to Ginetta’s new factory in Garforth, Leeds. In the process, the company has significantly re-engineered the carbonfibre tub, body and running gear.

“We’ve redesigned the tub to be stiffer and make it easier to manufacture, realigned the driving position, stripped out weight and created new body panels,” says Ginetta.

Key among the weight-saving measures is a simpler, driver-focused specification, with unassisted steering, no anti-lock, no electronic driving aids and servo-less brakes. The G60 now weighs about 1100kg, close to 400kg less than the Farbio.

The wishbone suspension, uprights and brakes have also been redesigned. But power continues to come from a Ford Mustang 3.7-litre V6, in naturally aspirated 310bhp form. It’s the same unit that powers the Ginetta G55 racer.

Drive goes to the rear wheels via a six-speed Ford gearbox and a Quaife limited-slip diff. The powertrain is suspended from the tub on a new subframe, fabricated from tubular steel, in place of the Farbio’s square-section design. The tubular steel front subframe is also new.

Although the 310bhp output is less than that of the top-spec Farbio GTS 400, whose V6 was supercharged for a claimed 410bhp, performance is equally impressive because of the G60’s weight loss. Ginetta quotes a sub-4.0sec 0-60mph time and top speed “in excess of 165mph”.

The last mid-engined Ginetta road car was the Escort-based G32 of 1989.
