New retro-styled two-seat sports car costs £125,000 and features a 450bhp 6.2-litre engine

Evanta has revealed its new Barchetta two-seat sports car at the Goodwood Revival.

The retro-styled model, which has been "inspired by the design language of 1950s motorsport", is described as having "sleek, sweeping curves" and "Anglo-Italian parentage".

The Evanta Barchetta, which is built in Britain, is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine developing 450bhp. A tubular chassis supports the car's Kevlar bodywork in standard form; a more costly aluminium-bodied version is also available.

Both left and right-hand versions will be built and customers are able to specify either a manual or an automatic transmission.

The company says the combination of a powerful engine and low weight gives the Barchetta "exceptional agility". Prices for the Barchetta start at around £125,000, with the aluminium-bodied version costing approximately £165,000.

A limited production run of 99 units will be made and the company is taking orders for the car now.

Speaking to Autocar at the Goodwood Revival, Evanta boss Ant Anstead said: "I’ve created a brand over the last few years based on classic cars and classic design.

“We wanted to create a modern, retro car that still has the styling elements and inspiration from the 50s and 60s – but also one that was totally reliable.

"Today’s customer doesn’t want to open the bonnet or get underneath the car. They still want the thrill of driving it, though, to be part of the exclusive club that drives these cars.

"We took an existing Evanta product, which we made a one-off version of two years ago, and refined it with our own influence.”

Evanta has also announced it will unveil a new GT concept car in 2015, which is planned to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March.

Looks lovely

After seeing the somewhat awkward details of the David Brown retro car, I was a bit concerned about this. But it looks lovely. The only minor quibble would be the shape of the headrests - bricklike things that are out of kilter with the rest of the car. The rest of it looks great.

Yawn

Not as nice looking, and about £150000 more, in aluminium bodied form, than a Cobra look alike kit car. Will never see one anyway.
